High profile Class 4A Fort Worth-area football coach leaves for job in Oklahoma
Decatur head coach Steve Huff announced his resignation Thursday, according to Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. He is taking a job as head football coach and athletic coordinator at Chickasha High School in Oklahoma.
Huff has led Decatur for four seasons, posting a 36-18 overall record. The Eagles have had solid playoff success, with state semifinal appearances in 2022 and 2023.
Huff, who had a yearly salary of $146,940 in the 2025-26 school year, maintained the Eagles’ reputation as one of the premier Class 4A programs in the Fort Worth area along with Springtown, Brock, and Alvarado.
He led Decatur to a 8-4 overall record and a 5-1 District 5-4A Division I record. The Eagles, after beating Castleberry and Paris in the bi-district and area rounds, respectively, fell to Celina in the regional semifinals.
Huff has 124 wins and 37 losses in his Texas high school football career – the most high profile victory came in 2017, when his College Station squad upset Aledo in the Class 5A Division II state championship.
Huff will join a Chickisha program that went 2-8 and 2-5 in district play in 2025.
