Late rally lifts Faith Christian past FWC

Grapevine Faith Christian rallied to score 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning then held off Fort Worth Christian 10-9 in a TAPPS Division II District 1 contest on Monday at Faith Christian School.

Alixandria Ciccone, Michaela Hamilton, Jocelyn Monroe and Paige Weaver all had RBI singles in the sixth inning as Faith Christian (18-6-1 overall, 6-3 district) turned around a 9-5 game. Ciccone’s liner to left drove in Kylee Sabo (double) and Addison Skelly to start the scoring in the inning.

Monroe’s single to right drove in Hamilton (single) to tie the game and Weaver lined a single to center to score Madison Stewart, running for Monroe, to take the lead. Monroe, who got the win in the circle, allowed a 1-out double to Leyton Lehner, but followed with a ground out and strikeout to end the game.

Fort Worth Christian (22-7, 5-4) had scored 5 runs of its own in the top of the second with the big blow being a 2-run double by Gabby Bright.

Jessica McCann had 3 hits for the Lions with Ciccone (3 runs, 2 RBI), Hamilton, Monroe (3 RBI), and Weaver (2 RBI) recording 2 hits each for Faith. Grace Johnson (2 runs), Bright (2 runs, 3 RBI), Elle Andujar and Lehner had 2 hits each for the Cardinals.

BASEBALL

Willow Park Trinity holds off Lubbock Christian

Willow Park Trinity Christian got a strong pitching performance from Colt Brinkman and held off Lubbock Christian 5-3 in a key TAPPS Division III District 1 contest on Tuesday.

Trinity Christian (13-7 overall, 8-2 district) got an RBI ground out by Lucas Smith and a run-scoring single by Patrick Gullatt to take a 2-0 lead after 1 inning. It was 5-1 after RBI singles by Zander Gasowski and Logan Lee in the fifth and Hank Nash in the sixth.

Brinkman, who tossed 6 1/3 innings of 2-hit ball, got the first out of the seventh, but Lubbock Christian (22-6, 9-2) touched Brinkman for a pair of singles before being lifted. LC loaded the bases and scored twice without the benefit of a hit before Gullatt closed the door with a strikeout and fly out to center.

Caleb Hart (double), Nash, Gullatt and Gasowski all had 2 hits for Trinity Christian.
