Legacy drops decision to Lake Ridge, waits for playoff fate

Mansfield Legacy must now play the waiting game after dropping a 2-1 decision to Mansfield Lake Ridge in a District 3-6A contest on Friday at Lake Ridge High School.

Legacy (21-8 overall, 8-4 district) has finished its district slate and sits in position to finish anywhere from a first-place tie to a third-place tie, but the Broncos look to have a playoff berth nailed down.

District 3-6A is a jumbled mess with 5 teams battling for the 4 spots. Lake Ridge (18-8-2, 8-2) is in as well so Weatherford (19-11, 6-4), Mansfield (13-13-1, 7-3) and Fort Worth Boswell (18-8-3, 7-3) will decide the final 2.

Legacy scored its only run in the top of the second on an RBI double to left by Corbin McDaniel. Lake Ridge countered with 2 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI triple by Dom Harper who came home on a single by Jeremiah Thomas.

Jake Jenkins took the loss for Legacy allowing the 2 runs 4 hits while striking out 12. Tony Green threw 5 innings for Lake Ridge allowing an earned run on 2 hits.

Grapevine goes undefeated in 6-5A title quest

Grapevine made short work of North Richland Hills Richland 12-2 in 5 innings in a District 6-5A game shortened by the run rule on Friday at Richland High School.

Grapevine (26-3 overall, 12-0 district) took the 6-5A title without a blemish and no awaits the playoffs and an attempt to three-peat as state champions. Richland fell to 8-19-1 and 2-8 in league play.

The Mustangs had a 5-run top of the first highlighted by a bases-clearing, 3-run double by Nomar Torres. Zack Goldstein and Jorvorskie Lane, Jr. had back-to-back, RBI triples in a 4-run fourth inning for Grapevine with Lale Esquivel and Connor Ray also picking up RBIs in the inning.

George Lugo doubled twice and knocked in a run for Richland.

Arlington Heights nails down at least a tie for title

Fort Worth Arlington Heights finished its District 7-5A slate with a 7-1 win over Fort Worth Trimble Tech to secure at least a district co-championship on Friday night.

Arlington Heights (16-10-2 overall, 11-1 district) will have to wait to see if it will be the first or second seed in the Division I state playoffs. Fort Worth Paschal (23-3, 9-1) can tie the Yellow Jackets with a sweep of Fort Worth Polytechnic (5-17, 2-8) next week.

If Paschal completes the sweep, the Panthers and Arlington Heights, who split their season series, will have to decide how to break the tie for the two seeds in Division I.

The Yellow Jackets spotted Trimble Tech (9-17-1, 3-7) a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single to center by Jesus Castillo (2 for 2). With the game tied 1-1, Heights put up a 4 spot in the fourth inning with the big blow being a 2-out, 3-run double by Adrian Reyes (3 for 3) that put the game on ice.

Omar Arguello went 3 for 4 for the Jackets with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Roy Perez tossed a 6-hitter allowing the 1 earned run while striking out 5 and walking 1.
