Birdville bounces back, defeats Grapevine
Birdville lost 8-2 to District 6-5A frontrunner Richland on Tuesday.
But the Hawks bounced back, picking up a strong 8-1 victory over Grapevine Friday. Birdville (7-2) sits at second place in district, with Argyle trailing closely behind at 6-3. Grapevine (4-6) currently holds the fourth place District 6-5A playoff spot.
Birdville scored in bunches with a three-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth inning. Four players had multiple hit games: Evelynn Swartzlander, Reagan Jordan, Avery Rodriguez and Macie Moore. Becka Graham added a two-run home run.
Jordan dominated in the circle, conceding four hits and allowing one earned run while walking one and striking out six batters.
Aledo stacks another win
Aledo won its 11th consecutive game Friday, trouncing Saginaw 15-0 in shutout fashion.
The Bearcats (20-9) have lost more games this season than the last two seasons combined. But they seem to have found a groove in District 5-5A play after a tough non-district slate.
Aledo got off to a fast start with six runs in the first inning, and after a two-run second inning, ended the game early with seven runs in the third. Nine different players registered an RBI in the contest.
Lily Heckathorn dominated in the circle in three innings of work, allowing not hits or walks and striking out nine batters in a perfect game.
Mansfield Legacy throttles Crowley
Mansfield Legacy piled on the hits against Crowley Friday, seizing a 17-1 victory in a game that ended after three innings.
The Broncos (18-11, 9-2 District 3-6A) have put themselves in a position to compete for the District 3-6A championship. To make that happen, they’ll need to overtake Boswell (18-11, 9-2 District 3-6A), a formidable opponent. The Broncos and Pioneers will clash Friday, April 17.
Against Crowley, Legacy’s Abby Scott spearheaded the offense with two hits and three RBIs. Hope Gaudio hit a two run home run and also drew a walk.
Shayla Gozalez earned the win, giving up one hit. She allowed no runs and struck out three batters.
Keller cruises past Euless Trinity
Keller’s Calliee Cribbs paved the way for a 9-0 victory over Euless Trinity Friday.
In five innings of work, she allowed one hit, walked three, struck out two and gave up no runs. Teammate Taylor O’Leary took over and finished the game, conceding two hits and zero runs.
Cribbs also had a solid game from the batters box, with two hits and two RBIs. Avery Lawton was also a key contributor with one hit and two RBIs. Keller (21-9-1, 10-4 District 4-6A) sits at third in district, with Byron Nelson and Keller Timber Creek in the top spots.
Burleson Centennial shuts out Joshua
Burleson Centennial Addison McCroskey stymied Joshua to power her squad to a 1-0 victory Friday.
McCroskey allowed no runs and two hits while striking out five in seven innings. Teammate Ava Ellis’ home run in the fifth inning was the only offense the Spartans needed.
Centennial (24-6-1) is undefeated in District 8-5A play with games against Burleson and Everman remaining before the postseason.
