Fastball - Tuesday softball: Richland downs Birdville and more, plus area scores

Richland shuts down Birdville, claims top playoff seed
North Richland Hills Richland got a 1-hitter from Stacy Jennings and Lauryn Gamez had a pair of hits and an rbi as the Royal claimed at least a tie for the district title and locked up the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A Division I playoffs with an 8-2 win over North Richland Hills Birdville on Tuesday in a District 6-5A game on Tuesday at Birdville High School.
Richland (27-2 overall, 10-0 district) can claim an outright district title with one more win or one more loss by Birdville (12-11-1, 7-2). Birdville will be the No. 2 seed out of 6-5A in the 5A DII playoffs.
All but one starter in the Richland lineup had hits with Gamez leading the way with two. Sofia Hernandez knocked in two runs with a ground out in the second inning and a fielder’s choice in the seventh.
Maty Quick doubled in a pair of runs with 2 out in the top of the seventh to end the scoring for the Royals. Jennings, a junior, went the distance allowing 1 hit, 2 earned runs while striking out 9 and walking 9.
Avery Rodriguez had Birdville’s only hit. Rodriguez doubled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth that cut the lead to 4-2.
Southlake Carroll stays in hunt, downs Eaton
Southlake Carroll kept its playoff hopes alive as the Dragons downed Haslet Eaton 5-1 on Tuesday in a District 4-6A contest at Carroll High School.
Carroll (18-12 overall, 7-6 district) holds on to fifth place, two games behing Keller (20-9-1, 9-4) and two-and-a-half games behind Eaton (22-6-1, 9-3).
Olivia Wiske got the win tossing 5 innings scattering 3 hits with 1 earned run and 2 strikeouts. Wiske was also perfect at the plate going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an rbi. Bella Garcia went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi for the Dragons.
Taryn Adams homered with 2 out in the top of the third for Eaton’s only run of the game.
Byron Nelson rallies to dump Keller, sweep series
Trophy Club Byron Nelson spotted Keller a couple of runs in the top of the first, but rallied with 4 in the third and 3 in the sixth to ease past the Indians 10-6 in a District 4-6A game on Tuesday at Byron Nelson High School.
Sydona Meiser, a Texas Tech signee, got Keller (20-9-1 overall, 9-4 district) on the board in the top of the first with an rbi single and Landry Beaman followed with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 2-0.
Elle Dearing’s bases-loaded single in the bottom half of the first drove in 2 to tie the game for Byron Nelson (26-3-1, 10-2). Dearing had 3 rbi on the night.
Mackenzie Nelson had 2 hits in 3 at bats for the Bobcats, which included and double and a triple, with 3 runs scored and 2 rbi. Kaylee Vien (double) and Courtney Julian both went 2 for 3 at the plate for Byron.
Meiser was 3 for 4 for Keller with a leadoff homer in the fifth. The Indians pounded out 13 hits with Calliee Cribbs, Mackenna Jackson (double), Beaman and Tinslee Cribbs contributing 2 hits each.
Byron Nelson defeated Keller 7-5 in the first meeting.
