BOYS

Wyatt rallies, wins in a shootout over Hanks

Fort Worth Wyatt had to come from behind twice to send it to overtime and then a shootout, but the Chaparrals got a standout performance from goalkeeper Pascual Ramirez to down El Paso Hanks 3-2 with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks in a Class 5A Division 2 regional semifinals on Friday at Wolfforth Frenship High School.

Wyatt (17-7-1), the fourth-place team out of District 7-5A, moves on to the regional final, but won’t be facing district rival Fort Worth Trimble Tech after the Bulldogs dropped their match to El Paso Burges (18-5-0) by a score of 1-0 on Friday.

The Chaparrals, making their furthest advancement in the playoffs in school history in boys soccer, will meet Burges in the 5A D2 Region 1 Final at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland. This is the first time Wyatt has made it past the second round of the playoffs.

Hanks (13-12-0) took a 1-0 lead at the half, but Wyatt tied it in the second half on a goal by Hamid Amiri that was assisted by Desire Kyanga. After the Knights took a 2-1 lead a short time later, the Chaps rallied again with a header by Bryan Monsivais off a feed from Venas Abubakari.

After two, scoreless, 10-minute overtime periods the game went to a shootout where Ramirez starred. The senior was able to stop two shots by Hanks while Jacob Olalde punched in what proved to be the game winner.

Bridgeport shuts down Ferris

Bridgeport got goals from Jared Contreras and Xxavier Garza and the Bulls made it stand up in a 2-0 win over Ferris in a Class 4A Division 2 regional semifinal on Friday at Crowley ISD Stadium.

Bridgeport (19-3-0) will meet Brownwood (15-1-2) in the regional final at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Briles Stadium in Stephenville. Brownwood defeated El Paso Bowie 3-2 (SO 2-0) in a shootout on Friday.

Habram Median was stellar in goal for the Bulls, recording the clean sheet against Ferris (18-4-2).

“All of these boys worked all 80 minutes,” said Bridgeport coach Brandon Medrano. “We don’t get too much time to prepare once it gets to the playoffs, but the little time we get together, they make it count and it showed up tonight.”

Southlake Carroll wins defensive slug fest over Prosper

Southlake Carroll got a goal from Maci Colvin in the 48th minute as the Dragons downed Prosper 1-0 in a Class 6A Division 2 regional semifinal on Friday at McKinney ISD Stadium.

Southlake Carroll (25-0-1) moves on to the 6A D2 Region I Final where the Dragons will face Denton Guyer (20-3-1) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex in North Richland Hills. Guyer defeated Midland 5-2 on Friday.

Prosper (17-3-5) and Carroll only produced 4 shots on goal for the entire contest, but the one that mattered came on a cross from the right side by Peyton Hayes. The pass found Colvin who headed in for what turned out to be the game winner.

Centennial slips past Tascosa

Hannah Furney finished off an assist from Bella Marquez early in the second half and that’s all Burleson Centennial needed to beat Amarillo Tascosa 1-0 in a Class 5A Division 1 regional semifinal on Friday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

Centennial (18-1-4), which was in the third round for the first time since 2022, will face Colleyville Heritage (16-3-2) in the regional final. Colleyville Heritage took down Amarillo 2-1 on Friday.

Colleyville Heritage defeated Centennial last season in an epic match that lasted over two rounds of penalty kicks.

Colleyville Heritage advances past Amarillo

Colleyville Heritage got goals from Addison Shimmick and Reagan Yearian to lead the Panthers to a 2-1 win over Amarillo in a Class 5A Division 1 regional semifinal at a wind-swept Bulldog Stadium in Burkburnett.

It will be the third consecutive appearance in the regional finals for Colleyville Heritage (16-3-2) who will meet Fort Worth-area foe Burleson Centennial (18-1-4) early next week. Centennial ousted Amarillo Tascosa 1-0.

Shimmick got the assist on Yearian’s goal that ends Amarillo’s season at 22-3-1.

Decatur can’t hold off Waxahachie Life

Decatur got a quick goal in the 16th minute, but Waxahachie Life powered its way back to earn a 2-1 win in overtime in a Class 4A Division 1 regional semifinal on Friday at Saginaw High School.

Life (27-0-1) will play in a regional final for the third consecutive season. The Mustangs will face Amarillo West Plains (19-5-2), who defeated Stephenville 1-0 on Friday, at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.

After Braelyn Meador sent a one-timer from 20 yards over the keeper to give Decatur (11-8-0) a 1-0 lead, the Eagles struggled to even get the ball past midfield. Decatur took only 3 shots in the game, all in the first half, with the one on goal.

The Mustangs finished with 18 shot attempts and 9 on goal and finally got the equalizer in the 51st minute when Aria Nylund found the back of the net. Gianna Hurtado finished off a corner kick in the 83rd minute that proved to be the game winner.
