Decatur girls basketball needed two points to force overtime as the final seconds of regulation ticked away.

Sophomore Style Brazile threw the perfect pass, and senior Bralyn Peck was there to receive it. She easily laid it up and in, saving the Eagles’ season.

Decatur capitalized in overtime and beat the Waco La Vega Pirates 58-54 in the Class 4A Division I state championship game Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The victory earned back-to-back state titles for Decatur.

Bralyn Peck led the way on Friday and ended her high school career with a spectacular individual performance: Peck scored 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Brazile orchestrated the offense with a team-high six assists, and she also hauled in five rebounds.

The Eagles trailed 25-23 at the half, and the Pirates’ lead grew in the third quarter. Facing a six-point deficit, Decatur outscored La Vega 17-11 in the fourth quarter to extend their season.

In overtime, two layups from Peck and a pair of free throws from senior Laken Coffman sealed the deal.

Free-throw shooting was a strong point for Decatur, as the team shot 75%, while La Vega shot 53% from the free-throw line and missed several in overtime.
