Friday HS Basketball Fast Break: Aledo celebrates 5-5A title, downs Brewer; more

BOYS
5-5A champion Aledo rallies, then holds off Brewer
Aledo got down early, rallied to take a comfortable lead, then had to hold off Fort Worth Brewer at the end as the Bearcats survived 49-37 in a District 5-5A game.
Aledo (26-6 overall, 12-0 district) had already clinched the district championship, but both teams played like the title was still on the line. Second-place Brewer (22-9, 7-4) jumped on the Bearcats early, taking a 13-7 lead with 6:38 left in the second quarter on a basket by Braelon Orr.
But the Bearcats outscored Brewer 35-13 in the second and third quarters to take a 42-24 lead. Townes VanHuysen led Aledo 15 points, 9 coming in the third quarter.
Caden Cunningham had a double-double for the Bearcats with 14 points (3 threes) and 12 rebounds. VanHuysen pulled down 7 boards for Aledo.
Orr helped Brewer threaten in the fourth quarter scoring 7 of his team-high 13 points in the final frame. Cobi Watkins added 9 points for the Bears while Jayden Johnson recorded 9 rebounds to go with his 8 points.
Last season was the first time that Aledo had won a boys district basketball championship since the school incorporated for the 1924-25 school year. Now the Bearcats have gone back-to-back winning district titles, both with blemishless district records.
No. 2 North Crowley jumps on Mansfield early in rout
North Crowley, No. 2 in the state in Class 6A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, jumped out to an early lead and kept the pressure on in a 95-60 drubbing of No. 25 Mansfield on Senior Night in a District 3-6A game at North Crowley High School.
Trey Hall scored a game-high 25 points and recorded 9 rebounds for North Crowley (28-3 overall, 11-0 district) with Isaak Hayes adding 20 more points with 6 assists and 4 steals. Dontre Grandberry scored 13 for the district-champion Panthers with Alex Barther II recording a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
North Crowley is now an incredible 288-17 all time at Panther Fieldhouse, according to Panther head coach Tommy Brakel. Kameron Price, who piled on his assist total for the year, finished with 7 more on the night to bring him to 187 on the year and an incredible 5.12:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Mansfield (22-8, 7-4) has also already clinched a playoff berth. Caden Shaver led the Tigers with 13 points with Zion Robinson adding 10.
L.D. Bell clinches playoff berth, thumps Timber Creek
Keyaun Williams poured in 18 points, including 4 three pointes, and Jesse Mikus recorded a double-double for Hurst L.D. Bell as the Blue Raiders clinched a playoff berth out of District 4-6A with a 70-54 win over Keller Timber Creek.
L.D. Bell (22-7 overall, 12-3 district) will face a desperate team in Keller (16-15, 10-5) in the regular season finale as the Indians need a win and a Southlake Carroll (16-12, 11-4) loss to Euless Trinity (12-19, 6-9) to force a tie and a fourth-place playoff with the Dragons.
Mikus had a terrific night recording 14 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists for the Blue Raiders who led 44-19 at the half before coasting home. Grant Walker added 13 points (3 threes) and Roman Washington chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Martin bounces Sam Houston, remains 3rd in 8-6A
Steven Reynolds III led Arlington Martin with 20 points, 12 in the first quarter, as the Warriors saw 5 players reach double-digit scoring in a 77-39 mauling of Arlington Sam Houston.
Martin (20-12 overall, 10-3 District 8-6A) got 11 points from Maddox Harrold and Jeremiah Ellis (3 threes) with Jeremy Nyakundi tossing in 10. The Warriors jumped out to a 31-7 lead after one quarter and led 46-12 at the intermission.
Sam Houston (3-22, 1-12) got 11 points from Clint Johnson and 9 from Jakaleb Silas.
No. 2 Summit rebounds, whips Cleburne
Mansfield Summit, the TABC’s No. 2 team in the state in Class 5A, rebounded from its first district loss of the season on Tuesday to Mansfield Timberview with a 74-34 romp over Cleburne.
Jaxon Sneed (6 of 6 free throws) and Mason Williams (4 threes) scored 16 points each for Summit (26-6 overall, 12-1 district). Joshua Serunjoji and Joseph Creal added 8 points each for the Jaguars.
Cleburne (11-21, 2-11) was led by Chase Ellis with 10 points.
No. 14 Southwest remains undefeated in 8-4A, downs Eastern Hills
Fort Worth Southwest, No. 14 in Class 4A according to the TABC, got 15 points from King Taylor in what assistant coach Derrick Mayweather referred to as a “dominant performance” as the Runnin’ Raiders eased past Fort Worth Eastern Hills 65-51 in a District 8-4A tilt.
Southwest improves to 24-7 overall and a perfect 11-0 in district. Eastern Hills (9-19 overall, 6-5 district) has clinched a playoff berth as well.
Colleyville Heritage dumps rival Grapevine
Colleyville Heritage got things rolling in the second and third quarters, outscoring Grapevine by 15 points en route to a 46-33 win over the Mustangs in a District 6-5A cross-town clash.
Colleyville Heritage (22-10 overall, 6-6) played its regular-season finale on Friday, but looks to be in good shape for a playoff berth. North Richland Hills Richland (21-10, 5-6) would have to defeat district champion and No. 4 Denton (26-3, 11-0) on Tuesday to force a playoff.
Grayson Eichinger led the Panthers in scoring with 14 points with Dmauri Evans and Sameer Johnson adding 13 and 11, respectively for Colleyville Heritage. Grapevine (14-19, 1-10) was paced by JayLeon Howard with 16 and Emmanuel Amal with 11.
Burleson Centennial dominates cross-town rival Burleson
Burleson Centennial got 22 points from Chazz Brown to lead the Spartans to a 73-38 shellacking of rival Burleson in a District 8-5A game.
Dylan Roberts added 15 points for Centennial (22-10 overall, 9-4 district) which holds to third place in the district race. Burleson drops to 19-16 overall and 3-10 in district play.
Arlington Heights takes 7-5A crown with win over Wyatt
Fort Worth Arlington Heights remained undefeated in District 7-5A play and clinched the district title with an 81-59 win over second-place Fort Worth Wyatt.
Arlington Heights (19-13 overall, 11-0 district) was led by Kaeden Grant who poured in 23 points with Brandon Clemmons adding 17. Eiljah Mason and Derrick Petite had 11 points each for the Yellowjackets.
Wyatt (15-15, 9-3), which has finished its regular season, remains alone in third place awaiting the start of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Benbrook handles Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Benbrook kept a lock on third place in District 8-4A as the Bobcats ran away from Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis 66-47.
Benbrook (20-12 overall, 8-3 district) saw Brennan Barter light up the nets for 30 points, including 5 three pointers, with Jayden Hall throwing down 21 for the Bobcats.
Anthony Elizondo Jr. paced Diamond Hill-Jarvis (10-19, 1-10) with 20 points (4 threes) and 10 rebounds. Raul Marquez scored 8 points (2 threes) and played solid defense for the Eagles.
Oakridge rips Trinity Valley in SPC play
Arlington Oakridge got 12 points from 4 different players as the Owls downed Fort Worth Trinity Valley 69-48 at the Southwestern Preparatory Conference Tournament on Thursday.
Oakridge (22-11) was led by Tre Hall with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Dylan Robinson (3 threes), Trayden Brooks and Rashad Muhammad (4 threes) also had 12 points each.
Caden Thomas and Nick Harrell chipped in 9 each. Caden Tolbert with a game-high 22 points for Trinity Valley (13-12) and Obim Nwoko chipped in 10 points.
