UIL wrestling preview: See Fort Worth-area qualifiers, athletes to watch
The UIL state wrestling tournament starts Friday at Cy-Fair ISD’s Berry Center.
Soutlake Carroll boys, Arlington Martin boys, Azle boys, Azle girls and Burleson girls enter the weekend ranked in WrestlingTexas’ rankings.
Azle has the only Fort Worth-area programs ranked in the top three (boys No. 3 and girls No. 2).
Here are the top Fort Worth-area wrestlers to watch ahead of the action, and a list of all the local qualifiers.
Girls wrestlers to watch
Noah Kovach, Azle: Noah Kovach will look to defend her title in the 100-pound bracket.
Maliana Heimuli, Euless Trinity: Heimuli is looking to defend her heavyweight championship.
Zaylyn Woods, Azle: In a highly anticipated freshman season, Woods will compete in the 130-pound bracket. Her parents fought in the UFC, and she boasts multiple USA Wrestling national titles.
Boys wrestlers to watch
Dylan Ota, Soutlake Carroll: Ota is looking for a three-peat as a Class 6A champion. He will wrestle in the 113-pound bracket, which is a jump up from last year.
Keagan Sieracki, Southlake Carroll: Sieracki is looking to win consecutive state titles. He won in the 138-pound class last year and is now in the 150-pound bracket.
