Tuesday HS Basketball Fast Break: No. 14 Southwest boys win 12th straight, more

BOYS

No. 14 Southwest runs away from Diamond Hill-Jarvis

Fort Worth Southwest, No. 14 in the latest Class 4A state poll according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, had 5 players in double-figure scoring as the Runnin’ Raiders raced past Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis 102-37 in a District 8-4A contest on Tuesday night at Southwest High School.

Southwest (22-7 overall, 9-0 district) started all seniors in the game and 4 scored in double digits led by Orion Sylvestre who poured in 21 points. Chandin Davis and Tyson Syon added 18 points each and Keylan Jones contributed 12.

Diamond Hill-Jarvis (10-16, 1-7) jumped out to a 5-4 lead on three pointer by Elijah Hernandez and a basket by Anthony Elizondo, but Southwest went on a 36-1 run to pull away to a 54-12 lead at the intermission. Elizondo, who had a nice game all around, led the Eagles with 13 points including 2 threes.

Hernandez (2 threes) and Marcus Zenteno added 8 points each for Diamond Hill-Jarvis. Junior Tevin Clayton was on fire for Southwest in the fourth quarter scoring all 14 of his points in the frame including 4 three pointers.

Southwest won its 16th consecutive district game in the win, even without starters BJ Baker and King Taylor sitting out the contest. Diamond Hill-Jarvis is just 2 wins away from equaling the most victories (12) the Eagles have had in season in the past 20 years (2013, 2017).

L.D. Bell triumphs in showdown with Southlake Carroll

Jesse Mikus poured in 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Hurst L.D. Bell took hold of second place in District 4-6A with a 64-57 win over Southlake Carroll on Tuesday at Carroll High School.

L.D. Bell (20-6 overall, 10-2 district) got 15 points from Keyaun Williams, including 3 three pointers, and 10 points and 5 assists from Roman Washington. Carroll (14-12, 9-4) is still in good shape for a playoff berth, dropping to a third-place tie with Trophy Club Byron Nelson, but just a game ahead of Keller.

Noah Johnson was on fire from beyond the arc for the Dragons hitting 7 three pointers and finishing with 23 points. Bo Kuhn added 12 points for Carroll with 2 threes.

Denton Ryan pulls even with Colleyville Heritage with win

Denton Ryan got a key victory in District 6-5A as the Raiders smothered Colleyville Heritage 46-25 on Tuesday night.

Ryan (12-12 overall, 4-5 district) pulled even with Colleyville Heritage (20-9, 4-5) in the district standings. Both teams are tied for third, but just a game ahead of North Richland Hills Richland (19-9, 3-5) which had a bye.

Sameer Johnson and Peyton Hines led the Panthers with 9 points each. Zylan Bernard led Ryan with a game-high 10 points with Lijah Brown adding 9.

Crowley upends No. 17 Mansfield

Crowley all but secured a playoff berth out of District 3-6A by upsetting No. 17 Mansfield 87-75 on Tuesday. The Eagles opened up a 12-point lead by the end of the third quarter and held off the Tigers the rest of the way.

Mansfield (21-7 overall, 6-3 district) remained in second place in district, but by just a half game over Mansfield Lake Ridge. Crowley (12-14, 5-4) is solidly in fourth place, 2 games up on Mansfield Legacy and just a game behind Mansfield.

Jaelon Germany poured in a game-high 30 points for the Eagles with Emmanuel Scott adding 14 points, Jeremiah Thirdkill with 13 and Kingston Willis with 12. Zion Robinson led Mansfield with 19 points while Preston Jackson chipping in 16, Caden Shaver tossing in 12 and Chase Jackson scoring 11 for the Tigers.

No. 2 Mansfield Summit cruises past Joshua

Mansfield Summit, No. 2 in the state in Class 5A according to the TABC, used a balanced scoring attack to take down Joshua 53-26 in a District 8-5A game on Tuesday.

Joseph Creel III led Summit (23-5 overall, 10-0 district) with 10 points with Emund Prichett Jr. adding 9. Mason Williams, Jaxon Sneed and Cade Tucker had 8 points each for the Jaguars.

Joshua (14-15, 3-7) scored 18 of its 26 points on 6 threes. Jamarcus Fisher led the Owls with 7 points.

Eaton drubs Trinity, remains atop 4-6A

Haslet Eaton got 20 points from Caleb Harris to help the Eagles subdue Euless Trinity 67-49 in a District 4-6A game on Tuesday at Trinity High School.

Eaton (24-6 overall, 12-1 district) kept its grip on first place in 4-6A as K.J. Kelley scored 7 of his 18 points in the first quarter to help the Eagles build a double-digit lead. Trinity, which dropped to 10-17 overall and 4-7 in district, was led by Preston Holley with 14 points with Jayden Tatum chipping in 9 including 7 of 7 from the free throw line.

Martin storms past Bowie, holds on to third in 8-6A

Steve Reynolds III scored 26 points to help Arlington Martin hold on to third place in District 8-6A with a 66-48 win over Arlington Bowie.

Martin (17-12 overall, 7-3 district) got 10 points each from Ephraim Aimiuwu and Jeremy Nyakundi. Bowie (7-20, 4-6) is still alive in the playoff hunt, dropping into a three-way tie for fourth place.

Deshawn Chavlovich scored 17 points to lead the Volunteers with Victor Ogude adding 10 points.

Chisholm Trail keeps playoff hopes alive, downs Fossil Ridge

Fort Worth Chisholm Trail kept its playoff hopes on life support as the Rangers slipped past Keller Fossil Ridge 40-32 in a District 5-5A game on Tuesday.

Chisholm Trail improved to 9-14 overall and 3-5 in district play, just a half game behind fourth place Saginaw. Jesse Mutombo led the Rangers with 23 points.

Fossil Ridge slipped to 13-16 overall and 3-6 in district, but is still in contention as well.

Seguin rolls over Burleson Centennial

Zoderick Green scored 33 points and Armani Green scored 23 points as Arlington Seguin surprised Burleson Centennial 86-60 in a District 8-5A game on Tuesday.

Seguin (19-8 overall, 5-5 district) solidified its position in fourth place in 8-5A. Centennial (19-10, 6-4) remained a game ahead of the Cougars.

Brewer starts fast, eases past Granbury

Carter Scott scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as Fort Worth Brewer jumped out to an early lead and then cruised to a 79-44 win over Granbury in a District 5-5A game on Tuesday.

Brewer (21-8 overall, 6-3 district) stayed in the thick of the 5-5A playoff race, holding on to second place. Braylen Brown added 17 points, including 3 threes, with Braelon Orr contributing 16.

Granbury (4-24, 0-8) was led by Kylan Loving who had 10 points.

No. 10 Kennedale takes down Godley

Kennedale, No. 10 in Class 4A according to the TABC, had 4 players in double-digit scoring to help pull away from Godley 78-54 in a District 12-4A contest on Tuesday at Kennedale High School.

Kennedale (24-5 overall, 9-0 district) was led by Bryson Nickerson with 15 points followed by Trey Smith with 13, and Jayden Miller and Mason Forbes who chipped in 12 points each.

Jaxon Hill was on fire for Godley (12-15, 2-6), leading all scorers with 20 points, which included 6 three pointers. Aharon Green added 15 points (3 threes) for Godley.

Oakridge jumps on Cistercian early

Arlington Oakridge jumped out to a 14-point lead at the half then cruised to a 58-43 win over Irving Cistercian in an SPC North game on Tuesday.

Oakridge (21-9 overall, 2-4 conference) was led by Nick Harrell who scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half. Tre Hall added 12 points and Caden Thomas had 11 for the Owls.

Cistercian (6-14, 1-5) was led by Sebastian Soriano who had a game-high 19 points including making 10 of 13 free throws.

Covenant Classical thumps Denton Calvary

Covenant Classical improves to 8-0 in TAPPS District 1-3A play after a 77-40 win over Denton Calvary. The Cavaliers improved to 17-11 overall.

Covenant Classical was led by Ellis Mitchell’s 25 points and 14 more from Jack Liebelt. Denton Calvary falls to 6-20 overall and 1-7 in district play.

GIRLS

Keller holds on to second place in 4-6A, holds off Timber Creek

Keller’s Dahlia Rebella scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the third quarter as the Indians held off Keller Timber Creek 43-35 in a District 4-6A game on Tuesday.

Keller (22-7 overall, 12-3 district) holds on to second place in 4-6A. Lila Russell added 10 points for the Indians with Mia Arnold chipping in 7.

Lia Sumler had a game-high 13 points for the Falcons with Jillian Topping and Sara Kyne contributing 8 points each for Timber Creek.

Timber Creek (17-12, 8-6) fell into a fourth-place tie with Hurst L.D. Bell with 2 games left on the schedule. The teams split games this season.

Southlake Carroll keeps rolling, rips L.D. Bell

Southlake Carroll, No. 6 in the latest TABC Class 6A state poll, remained unbeaten in District 4-6A with solid 63-36 win over Hurst L.D. Bell on Tuesday.

Carroll (29-1 overall, 15-0 district) has already clinched the district title and will try to run the table when they travel to Keller Central on Friday. The Dragons jumped out to a 33-14 lead at the half and then coasted behind Whitney Jense who scored a game-high 20 points.

Angelina Bouley added 15 points with Messina Tade chipping in 12 for Carroll. L.D. Bell (23-9, 8-6), which fell into a fourth-place tie with Keller Timber Creek, was led in scoring by Madi Capers with 11.

Paschal keeps district slate clean, rips North Side

Fort Worth Paschal remained unbeaten in District 7-5A play with a 51-16 victory over Fort Worth North Side on Tuesday.

Victoria Hultgren led Paschal (18-13 overall, 11-0 district) with 12 points and Adeline Stults added 10. North Side (8-16, 2-8) was led by Khloe Martinez with 6 points.

Cleburne claims 8-5A title, routs Burleson

No. 16 Cleburne claimed the District 8-5A championship with a 60-21 win over Burleson on Tuesday night.

Cleburne (23-8 overall, 12-0 district) was led by Lily Sheppard with 16 points with Izzy Guadamuz and Lauryn Carrizlaes scoring 11 points each. Cleburne coach Tiffany Hill touted Carrizales for her defensive effort and work on the boards for the Yellow Jackets.

Burleson dropped to 16-18 overall and 2-10 in district play.

Burleson Centennial races past Seguin

Burleson Centennial all but secured a playoff berth with a 57-30 win over Arlington Seguin in a District 8-5A game on Tuesday night.

Centennial (18-14 overall, 7-5 district) had 10 players score led by Carly Reed who tossed in 15 points to go along with 5 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Ellie Stanley added 9 points and 4 steals and Lyric Caldwell, Carree Clater and Xeric Robinson scored 6 points each for the Spartans.

Seguin fell to 6-25 overall and 0-12 in district play.

Everman sets up showdown with Centennial, downs Timberview

Everman set up a showdown on Friday with Burleson Centennial that will likely decide the final playoff berth out of District 8-5A as the Bulldogs took down Mansfield Timberview 51-28 on Tuesday.

Everman (20-13 overall, 6-6 district) is just a game behind Centennial (18-14, 7-5) for fourth place. The Spartans defeated Everman by 7 points in their first district meeting.

Everman finishes with No. 16 Cleburne, the district leader, and Centennial gets second-place Joshua to end the regular season.

Makhiya Dangerfield led the Bulldogs with 13 points and 6 steals with Carsyn Smith recording a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with 5 steals. Harli Clark added 10 points and 5 steals for Everman.

Aledo takes the 5-5A crown with win over Saginaw

Aledo, No. 14 in the state in Class 5A, moved to 10-0 in District 5-5A with a 63-33 win over Saginaw to secure the district championship for the first time since 2018-2019. It’s the second district championship in girls’ basketball since the Ladycats have been a Class 5A school starting in 2014.

Aledo was led by Tiara Butler who tossed in 16 points. Brooklyn Dempsey added 11 and Elizabeth Griffin contibuted 10 for the Ladycats. Aledo, which improved to 22-7 overall, will travel to Granbury on Friday.

Saginaw (16-13 overall, 7-3 district), which has secured a playoff berth, got 12 points from Shaniah Franklin, 11 points from Brooklyn Monroe (3 threes) and 8 from Anabelle Aguilera.

Top-ranked Decatur rolls past Eagle Mountain

Maddyx Coffman scored 18 points in leading Decatur (29-4 overall, 12-0 District 7-4A), No. 1 in Class 4A, to a 72-29 win over Fort Worth Eagle Mountain (15-17, 5-7).

Dunbar edges Western Hills

Fort Worth Dunbar got 17 points from Mariah Walker as the Wildcats toppled Fort Worth Western Hills 37-27 on Tuesday night in a District 8-4A game.

Dunbar (15-14 overall, 7-3 district) has secured a playoff berth. Damiyah Williams added 7 points, Makayla Malveau scored 6, and Ki’Yuna Bennett chipped in 4 points.

Samyia Hudspeth had 14 points for Western Hills (2-20, 1-9) with Layla James pitching in 11.
