BOYS
Mansfield Summit’s second-half surge dooms Everman
Everman jumped out early on Mansfield Summit, No. 4 in Class 5A in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state poll, but the Jaguars rallied then ran away in the second half for a 69-40 win over the Bulldogs in District 8-5A play.
Everman (14-11 overall, 2-5 district) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead but back-to-back threes by Summit’s Mason Williams started an 18-2 run by the Jaguars.
Summit (22-5, 7-0) got a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer by Joseph Creal to lead 25-22. The Jags then outscored the Bulldogs 44-18 in the second half to pull away.
Mason Williams hit 5 threes on his way to a team-high 17 points for Summit. Creal finished with 14 points, Jaxon Sneed had 11 and David Bardere contributed 10 for the Jaguars.
Martin mauls Arlington in 8-6A
Arlington Martin got 20 points from Steven Reynolds III and 18 more from Levi Moore as the Warriors blasted Arlington 92-46 in a District 8-6A game on Thursday.
Jeremiah Ellis poured in 15 points and Jeremy Nyakundi added 10 points for Martin. Joshua Brown had 15 points and Jordan Johnson chipped in 11 for the Colts.
Martin (15-11 overall, 5-2 district) remains in third place in 8-6A. Arlington dropped its 10th game in a row to drop to 4-21 overall and 0-7 in district play.
Southlake Carroll takes road win over Keller
Noah Johnson scored 16 with Riley McCoart chipping in 9 for Southlake Carroll as they go on the road to beat Keller 47-34 in District 4-6A play.
The Dragons improved to 14-9 overall and 8-2 in district, good enough for a second-place tie with Hurst L.D. Bell, a game behind Haslet Eaton. Keller falls to 12-14 and 6-4 in district.
L.D. Bell rolls past Northwest
Senior Jesse Mikus had 14 points to lead Hurst L.D. Bell to a 77-47 win over Justin Northwest on Thursday night. The Blue Raiders remained tied for second in District 4-6A after improving to 18-6 overall and 8-2 in district play.
Roman Washington added 11 points and a team-high 5 rebounds for the Blue Raiders. Grant Walker, Keyaun Williams and De’Myrii Walker had 10 points each for L.D. Bell.
Northwest fell to 1-23 overall and 1-9 in district play.
Lake Ridge rains threes in win over Boswell
Mansfield Lake Ridge, No. 18 in Class 6A according to the TABC, made 18 three pointers as the Eagles drummed Fort Worth Boswell 90-55 in a District 3-6A game on Thursday. 13 of the 15 players on Lake Ridge’s roster scored points in the game.
Lake Ridge (18-7 overall, 4-2 district) was led by Roman Dulin who tallied 18 points, including 5 three pointers. Ashton Parker added 15 points (3 threes), Nicholas Sessions had 11 points (3 threes) and Deshawn Edwards made 3 threes for 9 points.
Boswell (5-19, 1-5) was led by James Black, Jr. who had 14 points. Seth Allen recorded 13 points (3 threes) and Devante Martinez-Wilson added 12 points (3 threes).
Mansfield jumps out early, holds off Weatherford
No. 17 Mansfield jumped out to an early lead then held off Weatherford 96-88 in a District 3-6A contest on Thursday. The Tigers led 32-19 after one quarter and 58-41 at the half before the Kangaroos rallied.
Mansfield (20-5 overall, 5-1 district) got 23 points from K.T. Taylor and 18 points each by Chase Jackson and Caden Shaver. Rondy Dunn led all scorers with 24 points for Weatherford (17-11, 1-5) with contributions from Kamryn Mcdonald (20 points), Brady Mills (16) and Aidan Pool (15).
Saginaw pulls away late to down Granbury
Saginaw broke open a close game after three quarters to pull away from Granbury 67-54 in a District 5-5A contest on Thursday. Saginaw (11-13 overall, 3-3) outscored Granbury (4-22, 0-6) 25-15 in the fourth quarter.
The Rough Riders were led by Eugene Roseberry who tallied 21 points. Willie McCrary added 15 points with Brian Armes chipping in 11 and Logan Henry finishing with 10.
Kylan Loving led the Pirates with 21 points.
Southwest gets key win over Benbrook
Keylan Jones delivered a stellar defensive performance to help lead the Southwest Runnin’ Raiders (19–7 overall, 6–0 district) to a 59–46 victory over Benbrook (16–11, 4–2) in a key District 8-4A contest. Jones set the tone with his energy, ball pressure, and ability to disrupt Benbrook’s offensive rhythm throughout the game.
Covenant Classical remains undefeated in TAPPS 1-3A
Led by 20 points from senior Ellis Mitchell and 11 from senior Elijah York, Covenant Classical improves to 15-11 overall and 6-0 in TAPPS District 1-3A with a 58-44 win over Abilene Christian (11-12, 3-2).
GIRLS
Summit edges Everman on last-second miss
Everman had a chance to tie the game with 1 second left and send it to overtime, but the Bulldogs were only able to hit one of two free throws as Mansfield Summit escaped with a 48-47 win on Thursday in a District 8-5A game as Summit High School.
Madison Jones had a game-high 20 points, 7 of which came in the fourth quarter, for Summit (17-9 overall, 7-2 in district) and Maya Williams chipped in 9. Jahzeriah Esters led Everman (17-13, 3-6) with 11 points (3-threes) and Makhiya Dangerfield added 9 (3-threes) for the Bulldogs.
Southlake Carroll continues roll in 4-6A
No. 6 Southlake Carroll continued its dominance of District 4-6A with a 58-44 win over Keller in a key game at Keller High School. Carroll (26-1 overall, 12-0 district) has already clinched a playoff berth.
The Dragons were led by Whitney Jense who poured in 27 points. Mattie Renda added 16 points and Angelina Bouley chipped in 10.
Keller (19-7, 9-3) remains in second place. The Indians were led by Mia Arnold with 20 points.
Byron Nelson keeps pace in 4-6A, downs Timber Creek
Trophy Club Byron Nelson stayed in the race for a playoff berth and district title in District 4-6A with a 62-49 win over Keller Timber Creek on Thursday.
Brayon Edwards led the Bobcats (15-12 overall, 7-3 district) with 16 points hitting 7 of 11 field goals including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. Romejo Waits contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds, Jacob Grube had 14 points and 10 rebounds with Tucker Turner scoring 10 points with 8 assists.
Riley Tucker’s 18 points led Timber Creek (9-17, 2-8) with Santiago O’Neill chipping in 13 for the Falcons.
Cleburne stays undefeated in district, romps Seguin
Cleburne, No. 22 in the latest TABC Class 5A poll, got a game-high 21 points from Lily Sheppard to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 71-15 win over Arlington Seguin in District 8-5A play.
Sheppard finished 5 of 5 from three-point range and 2 of 2 from the free throw line for Cleburne (20-8 overall, 9-0 district). Izzy Guadamuz added 15 points and Alyssa Franklin poured in 12 for the Jackets.
Raisha Allen had 7 points to lead Seguin (6-22, 0-9).
Burleson Centennial thumps Mansfield Timberview
Burleson Centennial (17-12 overall, 6-3 district) kept pace for a playoff berth with a 47-23 win over Mansfield Timberview (6-19, 2-7). Jaliyah McNeal led the Spartans in scoring with 12 points and recorded 5 rebounds.
Lyric Caldwell added 10 points and 2 assists for Centennial. Carly Reed finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds and Xeric Robinson had a team-high 7 rebounds.
Paschal remains atop of District 7-5A
Fort Worth Paschal kept its lead in District 7-5A with a 53-5 romp over Fort Worth Trimble Tech on Thursday. The Panthers improved to 15-13 overall and 8-0 in district play.
Bella Zoll led Paschal with 12 points and Cate Werth added nine. Zaria Littles added 8 points and Audrina Bowers, Ashton Lynch and Julia Alvarado had 6 points each.
Saginaw downs Granbury in 5-5A showdown
The Saginaw girls lost to Granbury by 27 on Dec. 16, but the Rough Riders turned the tables by defeating the Pirates 46-33 in District 5-5A play on Thursday.
Saginaw (14-12 overall, 5-2 district) was lead by junior Shaniah Franklin with 17 points with freshman Brooklyn Monroe pouring in 16. Jillian Williams had 13 points for Granbury which fell to 16-14 and 5-3 in district.
Birdville rebounds with win over Ryan
North Richland Hills Birdville rebounded from its first district loss to Denton in overtime earlier this week with a resounding 68-50 win over Denton Ryan in District 6-5A play.
Avery Webb poured in 33 points for the Hawks who improved to 22-4 overall and 5-1 in district play. Ryan fell to 9-15 and 1-5.
Azle stings Fossil Ridge with second-half rally
Azle battled back from 14 points down at halftime to stun Keller Fossil Ridge 42-41 as the Hornets earned their first district win of the season.
Angel Sifuentes poured in 19 points for Azle (8-20 overall, 1-7 in District 5-5A) with Emersyn Anderson and freshman Caylee Robinson adding 7 points each for the Hornets. Emmy Caster and McKenzie O’Reilly had 16 points each for Fossil Ridge (16-10, 2-6).
Benbrook stays in contention, downs Southwest
Benbrook stayed in the thick of the District 8-4A playoff hunt as the Lady Bobcats defeated Fort Worth Southwest 57-42 on Thursday. Grace Klaerner led the way with 14 points for Benbrook (9-17 overall, 5-2 district).
Maddy Blocker added 13 points and Juliana Velasquez and Klarissa Lomas added 11 points each for the Bobcats. Ra’Niah Lewis, Unique Bolar, Allajah King and Carmen Amie each had 8 points for Southwest (7-20, 4-3).
Big first quarter lifts Country Day past Hockaday
Fort Worth Country Day outscored Dallas Hockaday 21-5 in the first quarter then coasted to a 48-32 win in a Southwest Preparatory Conference Class 3A clash. Ryleigh Hall, a Stephen F. Austin softball commit, led all scorers with 22 points.
Amelia Dickerson added 12 points for the Falcons. Hall surpassed the 1,000 career points mark on Jan. 13 against Arlington Oakridge.
