BOYS
North Crowley wins 3-6A showdown against Mansfield
North Crowley, No. 2 in Class 6A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, broke open a tight game at the half to down No. 17 Mansfield 81-67 in a District 3-6A showdown at Mansfield High School.
North Crowley (22-3 overall, 5-0 district) got 26 points from Trey Hall and 24 more from Alex Barther II. Hall was on fire in the second half scoring 24 of his 26 which included 4 three-pointers.
Isaak Hayes chipped in 18 points for the Panthers. Caden Shaver led Mansfield (19-5, 4-1) with 17 points with K.T. Turner adding 13 and Preston Jackson with 10 for the Tigers.
Martin mauls Sam Houston in 8-6A
Arlington Martin got 22 points from Steven Reynolds III and 15 more from Levi Moore (4 threes) as the Warriors downed Arlington Sam Houston 90-57 in a District 8-6A contest on Tuesday at Sam Houston High School.
Reynolds scored 16 of his 22 points in the first quarter as Martin bolted out to a 29-2 lead after one and led 45-13 at halftime. Jeremiah Ellis added 13 for the Warriors with 3 three-pointers.
Messiah Williams was on fire in the fourth quarter for the Texans as he hit 5 three pointers and had 17 points in the period. Williams finished with 7 threes and a game-high 25 points. Clint Johnson added 10 for Sam Houston which fell to 3-15 and 1-5.
No. 4 Mansfield Summit swats Cleburne
Mansfield Summit got 16 points from David Bardere as the Jaguars ran away with a 57-29 win over Cleburne in a District 8-5A game on Tuesday at Cleburne High School.
Summit, No. 4 in Class 5A according to the TABC, stayed unbeaten in district play, improving to 21-5 overall and 6-0 in district play. Cleburne dropped to 11-14 and 2-4 in district play which puts the Yellow Jackets in a three-way tie for fourth with Arlington Seguin and Everman.
Burleson Centennial handles Burleson in 8-5A
Burleson Centennial, TABC’s No. 20 team in Class 5A, kept pace with the leaders in District 8-5A with a 65-52 win over cross-town rival Burleson on Tuesday at Burleson High School.
Centennial improves to 18-7 overall and 5-1 in district play which puts the Spartans in a second-place tie with Mansfield Summit. Burleson drops to 17-11 and 1-5. The Spartans were led by Creed Stafford who tossed in 11 points.
Colleyville Heritage takes big win over rival Grapevine
Colleyville Heritage got a big win over rival Grapevine to stay in the hunt for a playoff berth as the Panthers rallied in the first half to down the Mustangs 47-38 on Tuesday at Grapevine High School.
Colleyville Heritage (19-7 overall, 3-3 in district) trailed 9-3 after one quarter, but the Panthers outscored Grapevine 17-5 in the second period to take a 20-14 lead at the half.
Sameer Johnson led the Panthers with 19 points while Dmauri Evans and Grayson Eichinger scored 13 points each. Grapevine (14-13, 1-4) got 17 points from Emmanuel Amal and 12 from JayLeon Howard.
Covenant Classical rallies, edges Christian Life Prep
Fort Worth Covenant Classical got 26 points from Matthew Bates to remain unbeaten in TAPPS 1-3A after a 66-60 come back win over Fort Worth Christian Life Prep on Tuesday.
Covenant Classical (14-11 overall, 5-0 district) trailed 23-10 after one quarter and had to battle to stay in the game before outscoring the Knights 23-11 in the final frame to secure the game.
Ellis Mitchell contributed 13 points and Jack Liebelt added 12 points with 3 threes for the Cavaliers. Christian Life (7-8, 3-2) was led by Kaison Hobbs with 20 points and Greg Tarpley who chipped in 16.
GIRLS
No. 2 North Crowley pulls away from Mansfield
North Crowley, TABC’s No. 2 ranked team in Class 6A, built an 11-point lead at the half behind Sukari Kinney and then pulled away late for a 63-40 win over Mansfield in a District 3-6A contest on Tuesday at Mansfield High School.
Kinney scored 11 of her 19 points in the first half as North Crowley (22-4 overall, 7-0 district) led 27-16 at the break. Jamari Milton took over for the Panthers in the second half with 14 of her game-high 20 points coming after the intermission.
Mecca Crawford chipped in 11 for North Crowley. Mansfield (12-11, 1-5) was paced by Hayley Mathiesen who had 14 points with Cassidy Tucker and Kylie Farran added 11 points each.
No. 22 Cleburne holds off Mansfield Summit
Cleburne, TABC’s No. 22 team in Class 5A, took sole possession of first place in District 8-5A as the Yellow Jackets rallied for a 41-35 win over Mansfield Summit on Tuesday at Cleburne High School.
Summit (16-9 overall, 6-2 district), which had a chance to pull even with Cleburne in the district standings, took an 11-2 lead after one quarter behind Kyndal Hardaway who scored 5 of her team-high 11 points in the opening frame.
But Cleburne (19-8, 8-0) came back with a 19-6 advantage in the second quarter sparked by 3’s from Beckett Roe, Arajai Burks and Alyssa Franklin to take a 21-17 lead at halftime. Izzy Guadamuz scored 6 of her 10 points in the second period with Lily Sheppard contributing a team-high 11 points.
Cleburen head coach Tiffany Hill called it a “complete team win highlighted by strong team defense and disciplined rebounding.”
No. 23 Joshua rips Everman in 8-5A
Joshua, No. 23 in Class 5A according to the TABC, got 18 points from Chloe Griswell and 15 more from Hadley Soto as the Owls blew past Everman 51-25 in a District 8-5A game on Tuesday at Everman.
Soto hit 3 three-pointers to help Joshua improve to 28-3 overall and 6-2 in district. Everman fell to 17-12 and 3-5.
Burleson Centennial edges cross-town rival Burleson
Burleson Centennial maintained its hold on fourth place in District 8-5A with a 35-30 win over rival Burleson on Tuesday at Burleson High School.
Centennial (16-12 overall, 5-3 district) was led by Jaliyah McNeal who scored 9 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Carly Reed had 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 7 steals with Lyric Caldwell adding 6 points and 3 rebounds and Kennedy Harris chipping in 2 points and 8 rebounds for the Spartans.
Burleson dropped to 16-14 and 2-6.
Benbrook whips Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Benbrook stayed on pace for a playoff berth in District 8-4A as the Lady Bobcats thumped Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis 55-7.
Glace Klaerner led the way for Benbrook (9-17 overall, 5-2 district) with 17 points, including 3 three-pointers. Klarissa Lomas had 13 points and Maddie Blocker tossed in 10 points for the Bobcats. Freshman Mawloda Aminy hit 2 three-pointers for 6 points to lead DH-J.
