GIRLS
Keller runs away from L.D. Bell
Keller kept a tight grip on its position toward a playoff berth as the Indians built a big lead at the half, then coasted to a 74-54 win over Hurst L.D. Bell in District 4-6A play.
Keller (18-6 overall, 8-2 district) led 54-29 at the break on the strength of 21 first-half points by Lila Russell, 13 of which came in a 29-point second quarter. Russell led all scorers with 27 points.
L.D. Bell (20-8, 5-5) cut the lead to 64-51 with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Raiders would get no closer. Hannah Due led L.D. Bell with 14 points (4 three-pointers) while Reagan Bennett (4 threes) and Marleigh Vea chipped in 13 points each.
Freshman Dahlia Rebella added 14 points for Keller, 10 in the first half, and Mia Arnold tossed in 12.
Southlake Carroll remains undefeated in district
Southlake Carroll remained undefeated in District 4-6A plays as the Dragons jumped out quickly and then kept Euless Trinity at arms length for a 54-38 victory on Friday at Trinity High School.
Carroll (25-1 overall, 10-0 district), No. 8 in Class 6A according to the TABC, got a 22-point performance from Whitney Jense as the Dragons jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter. Angelina Bouley added 12 points and Mattie Renda pitched in 10 for the Dragons.
Trinity fell to 8-16 overall and 2-7 in district play. The Trojans were led by Karen Jones who scored a team-high 18 points.
Midland Christian edges Grace Prep in battle of titans
Midland Christian, No. 1 in TAPPS Class 5A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, out scored No. 3 Arlington Grace Prep by 7 points in the third quarter, then held off the Lions 48-44 in a TAPPS District 1-5A contest on Friday at Grace Prep.
Grace Prep (18-7 overall, 6-1 district) got a team-high 15 points from Zaria Howard with 10 coming in a 16-point fourth quarter. Samone Anderson added 10 and Angelina Medlock chipped in 9 for the Lions.
Midland Christian (22-6, 6-0) got a game-high 17 points from Jordyn Hamilton, including 7 of 10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Jordan Stokes added 13 and Selah Fox had 12 for the Mustangs.
BOYS
Keller can’t keep pace with L.D. Bell
Hurst L.D. Bell took advantage of several fast-break points to escape with a 71-62 win over Keller in a District 4-6A contest on Friday at Keller High School.
It was an important game for both squads as L.D. Bell improved to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in district play while Keller dropped to 11-13 and 5-3.
Jesse Mikus paced Bell with a game-high 20 points including 12 in the second quarter that helped the Blue Raiders take a slim 38-36 lead into halftime. Grant Walker and Keyaun Williams pitched in 12 points each for Bell and Roman Washington had 11.
Seth Turnbull hit 5 three-point baskets and finished with 16 points for Keller. Cash Erdmann also had 16 points and Sawyer Bennett contributed 13 points for the Indians.
No. 2 North Crowley drubs FW Boswell
North Crowley, No. 2 in the state in Class 6A according to the TABC, got a 29-point from Trey Hall and 17 more from Isaak Hayes as the Panthers rolled to a 103-39 win over FW Boswell in a District 3-6A contest at North Crowley HS.
Every player scored for North Crowley (21-3 overall, 4-0 district) which also got a 12-rebound performance from Hall and 8 assists from Hayes. Kameron Price had 9 assists and 0 turnovers which gave him 20 assists and 0 turnovers for the week.
James Black led the Pioneers with 12 points. Boswell fell to 5-17 and 1-3 in district.
No. 2 Grace Prep takes down No. 3 Midland Christian
No. 2 Arlington Grace Prep was never really challenged as the Lions dominated No. 3 Midland Christian 67-23 in a TAPPS District 1-5A showdown on Friday at Grace Preparatory Academy.
Grace Prep (19-1 overall, 6-0 district) was led by M.J. Boyd with 15 points, all coming in the second and third quarters. Kei Scott scored nine of his 14 points in the first quarter to get the Lions off to a fast start while Jesse Zimmerman scored 10 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Midland Christain (21-8, 4-1) was led by Brody McHugh who had 8 points.
