Interviews for the vacant head football coaching job at Southlake Carroll will begin next week, school board president Cameron Bryan said.

The nationwide search comes following the departure of Riley Dodge, who left to become the tight ends and passing game coordinator at SMU. Dodge was hired in 2018 and posted an 108-10 overall record while leading the Dragons.

“This is an important decision, and the board is committed to conducting a thoughtful, transparent and thorough search,” Bryan said during Monday’s school board meeting. “We will begin interviews within the next week. A hiring community committee has been formed that includes a strong cross-section of community members, district administrators and trustees.”

Bryan said he and Superintendent Dr. Jeremy K. Glenn are actively involved in the search as members of the committee. The remaining members of the committee will remain anonymous, per Bryan.

“We are pleased to share that we received a diverse and highly qualified pool of applicants from across the country,” Bryan said. “This reflects the strength of our district and the reputation of our football program.”

Glenn said the district’s goal is to name a head coach by March, but emphasized that the decision will not be rushed.

“We will continue the process until we find the coach who best aligns with our district’s values, expectations and commitment to excellence,” Bryan said.

Bryan also said that the position of executive athletic director and head football coach will be decoupled; Dodge served as executive athletic director in addition to being head football coach. Carroll ISD’s search for an athletic director will be a different process.
