Game of the Week: Kennedale vs. Alvarado

Kennedale kept pace with the leaders in District 12-4A as the Lady Kats held off Alvarado 60-52 on Tuesday night at Kennedale.

Alvarado looked anything like a team that is now 2-23 overall and 0-5 in district play as the Indians held tough for the first quarter and a half behind Jayme Taylor and McKayla Norris who had six points each in the opening two frames. But Kennedale (10-14 overall, 3-2 district) was able to build a double-digit lead at the half and held on to that for much of the remainder of the game.

Ciara Taylor had 15 of her game-high 25 points in the second quarter for Kennedale to help build the lead to 36-21 at the break. Carleigh Ray took over in the second half for Alvarado with 13 of her 15 points after the intermission and helped close a 20-point deficit at the end of three quarters down to 8 to end the game.

Thi Pho chipped in 10 points for the Lady Kats. Norris and Cylee Morton (3 threes) both finished with 12 points for Alvarado.

Keller cruises past Northwest

Keller held Justin Northwest scoreless in the first quarter in its way to 44-22, dominant win. The Indians jumped out to a 15-0 lead after one period as Mia Arnold scored 6 of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter.

Dahlia Rebella scored 9 points with Lila Russell and Zoe Soto tossing in 6 each for Keller. Amelia Reed and Ryleigh Dryer led Northwest with 6 points each.

The win kept Keller (17-6, 7-2) among the leaders in District 4-6A. Northwest fell to 12-16 and 2-7 in district play.

FW North Side survives Polytechnic in thriller

Fort Worth North Side (7-12) continued a stellar season to season turnaround, defeating Polytechnic 32-31. Last season, the Steers won four games. They’ve passed that mark with room to spare as district play continues.

Against the Parrots, Briana Rodriguez and Natalie Pule led the way with 8 points each. Sophomore Samantha Martinez was also a key contributor with 6 points. Coach Jerry Owens also mentioned that sophomore Tosha Kashindi played suffocating defense, which came in handy down the stretch.

Top Performances

Whitney Jense, Southlake Carroll: Carroll’s standout junior led the Dragons (23-1, 9-0 District 4-6A) to a 68-37 victory over Byron Nelson with a team high 23 points. Teammate Angelina Bouley was also a key contributor with 19 points.

Maddison Jones, Mansfield Summit: Scored a team high 20 points as the Jaguars (15-8, 5-1 District 8-5A) seized a 49-27 victory over Burleson.

Samari Stevenson, Colleyville Heritage: Scored 19 points and grabbed 19 rebounds with 4 steals and 2 blocks to lead Colleyville Heritage (11-14) to a 34-32 victory over Birdville. The Hawks had a chance to tie it on the free throw line but couldn’t convert.
