Longtime Denton Ryan head coach Dave Henigan announced on social media Friday he is stepping down.

Henigan has spent 12 years leading the Ryan Raiders. The team was wildly successful in his tenure with a 2020 Class 5A Division I state championship, four state semifinal appearances and a 141-24 record.

“I hope and pray I helped someone along the way,” Henigan wrote. “It’s time for me to pass the torch. I want to thank all our players, present and past, for giving us all you had.”

Before his time as a head coach with Ryan, he helped lead the program to a state title as a coordinator in 2002. He then had stints as a head coach at Corsicana and Grapevine.

In the season that put Ryan back on top of Texas football in 2020, the Raiders completed a perfect season and capped it with a 59-14 dismantling of Cedar Park in the title game.

Considering Aledo’s move to Class 6A, Denton Ryan will remain in a position to compete for district and Class 5A Division I state championships with one of the most consistent talent pools in Dallas-Fort Worth.
