Former Texas, Southlake Carroll quarterback to make first NFL start Sunday
Former Texas Longhorns and Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers will make the first start of his NFL career Sunday for the Miami Dolphins in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who is being benched after continued struggles.
The Dolphins (6-8) host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-10) at noon Sunday.
Ewers was a seventh-round draft choice by Miami after spending the past three seasons with the Longhorns, leading them to two College Football Playoff appearances.
Before getting to college, Ewers starred at Southlake Carroll, where he was one of the highest-rated recruits in history before choosing Ohio State. He transferred to Texas after one season with the Buckeyes.
Ewers saw the only action of his rookie season in Miami’s 31-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 19, completing five of eight passes for 53 yards. He fumbled twice, but the Dolphins recovered both times.
The game is a chance for Ewers to showcase his skills for a Dolphins team that seems ready to move on from its former franchise quarterback. Tagovailoa has already hit a career high in interceptions (15) with three games left this season.
