Baseball prodigy Jorvorskie Lane Jr. transfers to defending champion Grapevine
One of the top Fort Worth-area baseball players is transferring to Grapevine, a two-time defending Class 5A state champion.
Heralded senior utility player Jorvorskie Lane Jr. will join the Mustangs on their quest for a three-peat, Grapevine head coach Jimmy Webster confirmed to the Star-Telegram. Tuesday was Lane’s first day at Grapevine High School.
The Dallas Morning News first reported the news.
Lane is Perfect Game’s No. 9-ranked recruit nationwide. He was committed to Texas A&M but decommitted following the departure of head coach Jim Schlossnagle to Texas.
As a sophomore, Lane made history with Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt, leading the Chaparrals to end a 52-year playoff drought. He posted absurd stats, batting .588 and with 57 RBIs while playing catcher. Lane was arguably the best leadoff hitter in the nation with a 1.789 OPS and flashed serious speed with 61 stolen bases.
Wyatt did not provides Lane’s junior season stats. He recently played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic and also participated in the Area Code Games showcase.
Lane’s father, Jorvorskie Lane Sr., was a football star at Texas A&M, rushing for 2,193 yards and 49 touchdowns in four years. He went on to play three seasons in the NFL.
