Grandview softball set to play in Class 3A Division I state championship
The Grandview Zebras are galloping back to the UIL Texas High School Softball State Championships.
Grandview (33-2) will face Whitesboro (26-11) in the Class 3A Division I state title game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Red & Charline McCombs Field at UT Austin.
In 2024, Grandview lost 3-2 in extra innings to Cahoma in the Class 3A state championship. In 2023, Grandview lost 6-3 to Santa Gertrudis Academy in a state semifinal. In 2025, the Zebras will have a shot at redemption.
Leading the way is junior starting pitcher Madi Doty, a Texas commit and a member of the 2025 U18 USA softball team. Doty has three years of experience as Grandview’s ace, and she has led her team to three state tournaments.
In 2024, she tallied 25 wins en route to Star-Telegram All-Area First Team honors. She will look to continue a stellar high school career in the title game, where, for the first time, the UIL is using a split-division format.
Two more players to watch include junior outfielder Sydney Mann, an Abilene Christian commit, and senior catcher Kylie Grafa, a Delta State commit. Mann and Grafa earned 2024 Star-Telegram All-Area honors with batting averages of .441 and .479, respectively.
Coahoma (34-1), the team that beat Grandview in 2024, will play in the Class 3A Division II state championship.
