David Markley reinstated as Southlake Carroll boys basketball head coach
After being dismissed on May 5, David Markley has been reinstated as Southlake Carroll’s boys’ basketball coach, he told the Star-Telegram on Friday.
Markley had told the Star-Telegram the parting of ways was due to “sideline demeanor and use of profanity.” He told the Star-Telegram the decision was “out of nowhere” and that he never had previous issues with his evaluations from superiors.
Markley, the 2025 District 4-6A Coach of the Year, led the Dragons to a playoff victory for the first time in 20 seasons. Community members, including Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Eric Hughes, came to his support at a Carroll ISD school board special meeting.
“Excited to be back with Dragon Hoops!,” Markley wrote on X. “Ready to continue building the @CarrollDragonBB program next season & into the future! Thanks to everyone for the love these past few weeks.
Markley also thanked Riley Dodge, Southlake Carroll football coach and executive athletic director, for his support.
After Markley’s dismissal, Dodge told the Star-Telegram, “I love Coach Markley. He’s a great man and coach!”
Markley led the Dragons to a 23-9 record in the 2024-25 season and has been head coach since 2021.
