San Antonio Harlan junior Tate Taylor made history at the UIL State Track and Field Meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday.

He won the 100-meter dash with a phenomenal wind-legal time of 9.92, setting the United States high school national record.

Taylor is now No. 2 in the 100-meter under-20 list in world history and is behind Letsile Tebogo, and Olympic champion. Tebogo recorded a 9.91 time, which is 0.01 seconds faster than Taylor’s time at the UIL State track meet.

In the same heat as Taylor, Duncanville’s Brayden Williams recorded a strong time of 10.01, which surpasses the previous state record Matthew Boling set in 2019 (10.13).

Taylor also won the 200-meter with a 20.14 finishing time, setting a Texas state record. He fell 0.01 seconds short of Roy Martin’s national record (20.13) set in 1985.
