Aledo bests Colleyville Heritage, advances to area round
Aledo (26-3), after a game-one win on Wednesday, took the series from Colleyville Heritage on Thursday, April 24, at Chisholm Trail High School with a dominant 12-1 victory. The Bearcats advance to the area round in the Class 5A Division I bracket.
In 2024, Aledo made it to the Class 5A state semifinals. Ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association, the Bearcats are a contender once again. In the area round, Aledo will face Paschal or Burleson — the Panthers and Elks were scheduled to play a one-game on Thursday but it got postponed to 6 p.m. Friday at North Crowley High School.
Aledo freshman Tempe Perry put on a show from the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing zero earned runs and striking out eight batters. Offensively, Kyleigh Pawlak was a force with a team-high four hits and four RBIs.
Colleyville Heritage ends its season at 12-13-1.
Euless Trinity squeaks by Mansfield for series lead
Euless Trinity pitcher Peyton Hosey tossed a two-hitter, striking out 10, and knocked in what turned out to be the winning run as the Trojans took Game 1 of their Class 6A Division I bi-district series 3-2 over Mansfield on Thursday, April 24, at Trinity High School.
Mansfield (12-13) will try to even the series in Game 2 that is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at Mansfield High. The series winner will play the winner of the Midland Legacy (17-12)-El Paso Eastlake (23-12) matchup.
With the game tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the third, Trinity (17-12-1) got a lead-off single by Feao Hau. A.J. Johnson followed with a walk before Hosey stepped up with one out and hit a soft liner just over the head of the Mansfield second baseman to score Hau.
Mansfield had a chance to tie in the top of the fifth when London Stubblefield reached on an error with one out. But Trinity got a pair of defensive gems to get out of the inning.
Trojan left fielder Lauren Barker made a diving catch in foul ground that allowed Stubblefield to move to second. Caleigh Mentzer followed that, running down a deep drive to center field by Ryann Rivero to retire the side.
Joshua starts playoff run with massive win over North Side
In 2024, Joshua made it to the regional quarterfinals, where the Owls lost in three games to Aledo.
This year, with the UIL’s new split division format, Joshua and Aledo are separated, with the Owls playing in the Class 5A Division II bracket. They started their playoff run with a dominant showing, picking up a 15-0 mercy rule victory over Fort Worth North Side in three innings.
Joshua was led by senior Serenity Vaught, who allowed zero earned runs. She also picked up her 350th career strikeout in the contest.
Joshua’s Taylor Proffitt started the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Kinlee Alexander added to the lead with a two-RBI double in the second inning. In the third, the Owls opened the floodgates with RBI base hits from Leilainie Sam, Baylee Jones and Evelyn Tate — Joshua scored 12 runs in the third frame.
