Individual Awards
On Friday, May 2, the Start-Telegram announced its All-Area Super Team individual award winners.
Player of the Year: Alejandro Ibarra, Senior forward, Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Defensive Player of the Year: Christian Serrato, Senior, Castleberry
Offensive Player of the Year: Fife Adeyemo, Senior, Southlake Carroll
Goalkeeper of the Year: Caleb Castaneda, Junior, Castleberry
Newcomer of the Year: Tyler Thompson, Sophomore forward, Grapevine
Coach of the Year: Paul Smith, Castleberry
First Team All-Area
Forwards
Saul Ruiz, Junior, Saginaw
Ruiz, a first-team all-region selection, is a very quick and skilled player with a perfect first touch, according to Saginaw varsity assistant Leopoldo Angel. Ruiz earned first team all-district honors and a spot on the State All-Tournament Team. He helped lead Saginaw to a state semifinal.
Trapper Davis, Junior, Aledo
Davis, a Second Team All-State selection, led the Aledo Bearcats with 17 goals and nine assists. He was named the District 5-5A Offensive Player of the Year and scored a goal in 10 out of 12 district games.
Jose “Pepe” Chairez, Senior, Castleberry
Chairez, a Second Team All-State selection, scored 13 goals and recorded 12 assists for the Castleberry Lions, helping power the team to the Class 4A Division I state championship. Chairez, a four-year starter, made the Class 4A All-State Tournament Team and also earned First Team District 8-4A honors. Castleberry finished the season with a 22-2-3 record.
Midfield
Eddie Zapata, Senior, Castleberry
Zapata, a First Team All-State selection, was a force for Castleberry. He finished with 16 goals and 16 assists, earning District 8-4A Offensive Player of the Year honors. He made the Class 4A All-State Tournament Team and was a driving force on a run to the Class 4A Division I state championship game.
Al-Noubani Hisham, Senior, Hurst Bell
Hisham, a captain and First Team All-State selection, was an offensive machine for the Blue Raiders, scoring 23 goals and making five assists. He was a No. 5 scorer in Class 6A and is going to try out for the Jordanian National Team, according to coach Marty Reeves. Hisham was named the District 4-6A MVP and led the Blue Raiders to the regional semifinals and an 18-5-2 overall record.
Austin Randriamahefa, Senior, Aledo
Randriamahefa scored 17 goals and recorded 13 assists in 17 games, earning Second Team All-State honors. He was named the District 5-5A MVP. He holds multiple offers, which include ones from Hardin Simmons and East Texas Baptist. He finished his career at Aledo with 48 goals and 52 assists.
Defense
Aaden Segovia, Junior, Saginaw
Segovia started all games and served as a captain for Saginaw, a team that made the Class 5A Division II state semifinals. He earned First Team All-State honors and was also named to the State All Tournament Team. He scored four goals in the playoffs. According to coach Angel, he was a defensive anchor and also an offensive threat with free kicks and corners.
Cole Crawford, Senior, Aledo
Crawford was a major part in Aledo’s run to a district title. According to coach Derek Vierling, Crawford shut down every opponent’s top-scoring threat and helped anchor a defense that didn’t concede a goal in 12 district games. Crawford used to be a forward, and transitioned to defense; he never lost a step, earning Second Team All-State honors.
Zac Nystrom, Senior, Southlake Carroll
Nystrom was voted the District 4-6A Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Region honors. He led a defense that posted 12 shutouts, including two in the playoffs. Carroll’s defense allowed 15 goals in 25 games (0.6 per game).
Utility
Edgar “Rooney” Resendiz, Senior midfielder, Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Resendiz, a team captain, finished with three goals and 14 assists, earning District 7-4A Co-Midfielder of the Year honors. He was “the engine” of DHJ’s midfield, controlling the tempo of the game, according to coach Kyle Reopelle. He helped lead DHJ to an undefeated district title, a 23-3 overall record and a regional final.
Alan Sanchez, Senior midfielder, Saginaw
Sanchez scored eight goals and had seven assists en route to District 5-5A Midfielder of the Year honors. He earned honorable mention all-state honors, helping lead Saginaw to a state semifinal. According to coach Angel, Sanchez served as a key team leader, controlling and directing the game. He made a jump in his play in the postseason, leading Saginaw to new heights while being double-teamed.
Goalkeepers
Pierce Ling, Junior, Aledo
Ling earned honorable mention all-state honors and was also voted as First Team All-District. He posted six shutouts in 16 games, conceding 11 goals and making 47 saves for a 0.77 goal-against-average. He saved two penalty kicks and also registered an assist of a 65-yard punt.
AJ Rosen, Senior, Hurst L.D. Bell
Rosen was an “absolute monster” according to coach Reeves, and his stats back up that statement. He made 82 saves and posted nine shutouts with a 0.80 goals-against average. He had two assists from free kicks. Rosen, an SFA football commit as a kicker, earned District 4-6A Goalkeeper of the Year honors and Second Team All-State honors. He led Bell to a 18-5-2 overall record and a regional semifinal appearance, making a crucial PK save in the area round.
Second Team All-Area
Forwards
Conrad Torp, Junior, Saginaw
Torp, a Second Team All-Region selection, made a huge impact as a varsity newcomer. He had five goals and also five assists in district, earning Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors. According to coach Angel, he scored when the Rough Riders needed it most. Saginaw made a state semifinal appearance.
Joseph Aziz, Junior, Keller
Aziz led Keller to the playoffs, earning First Team All-District and First Team All-Region honors.
Manuel Perez, Senior, North Crowley
Perez, a Second Team All-Region selection, was a pivotal force in North Crowley’s district championship run. The Panthers also won a bi-district championship.
Midfield
Grayson Bowler, Senior, Justin Northwest
Bowler, a First Team All-Region selection, scored 11 goals and recorded six assists en route to District 4-6A Midfielder of the Year honors.
Townes Hargrove, Senior, Southlake Carroll
Hargrove was efficient inside a talented Dragon offense, scoring 10 goals and making eight assists on the way to District 4-6A Utility Player of the Year honors. Hargrove earned a spot on the First Team All-District and First Team All-Region teams. He had three goals in the playoffs.
Joely Garcia, Senior, Grapevine
Garcia, the District 6-5A Co-MVP, had seven goals and seven assists. As a three-year varsity starter, Garcia earned a spot on the TASCO All-Region First Team.
Defense
Joshua Montanez, Senior, Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Montanez, a First Team All-Region selection, scored 17 goals as a left back, primarily. He also tallied 15 assists, establishing himself as a vital component of a talented Diamond Hill-Jarvis offense and defense. He earned First Team District 7-4A honors and will continue his career at Howard Payne University.
Cade Kelly, Senior, Hurst Bell
Kelly was a big-time defender for the Blue Raiders, earning Honorable Mention All-State honors in Class 6A. He helped lead Bell to a district title and a regional semifinal playoff appearance.
Nicholas Layne Edwards, Senior, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic
Edwards was one of the top TAPPS players in the Fort Worth area, earning a spot on the TAPPS Division I Honorable Mention All-State Team.
Utility
Elijah Lopez, Senior right back, Richland
According to coach Matt Snow, Lopez is one of the best players to come through Richland High School and the heart of the team. All of the offense began with his touch. Lopez, a Texas Lutheran commit, led the Royals to the regional semifinals. He was named the District 6-5A Defensive Player of the Year and also earned First Team All-Region honors.
Rosendo Fernandez, Junior midfielder, Decatur
Fernandez, the District 4-4A MVP, served as a team captain for Decatur, a talented team that finished the season with a 20-1-2 record. Decatur made it to the regional semifinals, where it lost to Castleberry, an eventual state finalist. Fernandez was a key player, averaging two goals per match and tallying three hat tricks.
Goalkeeper
Reyes Medina, Senior, Diamond Hill-Jarvis
Medina, a Class 4A Second Team All-State selection, posted 13 clean sheets and conceded 17 goals on the season. Medina, a team captain, also earned First Team All-District honors. He can distribute and save among the best. In the fall, he’ll be attending TCU on a full academic scholarship.
