Introducing the 2024-25 Boys’ Basketball All-Area Super Team: 46 players receive honors

Introducing the 2024-25 Star-Telegram boys’ high school basketball Super Team. See the 46 elite Fort Worth-area players who made the first, second, and third-teams, as well as honorable mentions.

Individual Awards

Player of the Year: Eze Nwakamma, Mansfield Lake Ridge

Defensive Player of the Year: Ian Sedah, Mansfield Summit

Offensive Player of the Year: Javen Colbert, Decatur

Newcomer of the Year: Wesley Zenon, Eaton

Coach of the Year: Doug Groff, Kennedale

All-Area First Team

TRENT BOWERS, BIRDVILLE

Within a high-powered Birdville offense, Trent Bowers thrived. He averaged 17 points, four rebounds and four assists en route to District 6-5A Co-MVP honors.

Bowers, a 6-foot-2 senior combo guard, was monumental in Birdville’s Class 5A Division 1 state championship appearance and was named to State All-Tournament Team. Bowerms helped lead the Hawks to a 35-4 overall record. Bowers earned both TABC All-Region and All-State honors.

SAWYER DOTSON, BIRDVILLE

Sawyer Dotson, a 6-foot-7 junior wing, is an elite offensive force. He averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Birdville, the TABC’s No. 25 team in Class 5A; he was named the District 6-5A Co-MVP.

With a solid height advantage, Dotson can take efficient shots anywhere in the midrange. He can spread the floor with advanced three-point shooting and isn’t afraid to take them in transition.

In the Class 5A Division 1 title game, Dotson scored 25 points on 8 of 14 shooting to help force overtime, where the Hawks narrowly lost. Dotson earned TABC All-State and All-Region honors.

KAMDEN McGILVEARY, CROWLEY

Kamden McGilveary, a 6-foot-8 junior guard, was a force for Crowley, the No. 12 ranked 6A squad by the TABC. He averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and led the Eagles to the regional semifinals.

McGilveary was named the District 3-6A Offensive Player of the Year and also earned TABC All-Region honors.

JACOBY LOVINGS, KENNEDALE

Jacoby Lovings, a junior point guard, led Kennedale to a Class 4A Division 2 state championship win in a season in which he averaged 16 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2 steals.

He finished the championship game with 16 points and six rebounds, powering the Wildcats to their first state title since the 2008 season.

THEO BRANNAN, MANSFIELD SUMMIT

Theo Brannan, with high motor, skill and a knack for winning, was the engine that kept Mansfield Summit at full power during a Class 5A Division 2 state championship run. In the state title game, Brannan scored 12 points and played phenomenal, physical perimeter defense.

He averaged 10.5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Brannan, a point guard who will enter his senior season as a four-year letterman, was named the District MVP for the second consecutive season and also earned TABC All-Region and All-State Honors.

ISAAK HAYES, NORTH CROWLEY

Isaak Hayes, a 6-foot sophomore point guard, is undoubtedly the most talented underclassman in the greater Fort Worth area, and he already has a phenomenal case to be the most impactful player in any class. Hayes missed some action with an injury, but when he was healthy, he was able to average eye-popping numbers: 22.44 points, 4.56 assists, and 2.93 steals.

The foundation of his success is an advanced offensive skillset. He shoots 44.4% from three-point range while taking tough, contested shots, many of which are well beyond the line.

In District 3-6A, arguably Texas’ toughest district, he received unanimous First Team honors and also a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region selection. After returning from injury, Hayes led North Crowley to the Class 6A Division 1 regional semifinals, where the Panthers narrowly lost to Allen, a team that came within one possession of eliminating Duncanville, the eventual state champion.

All-Area Second Team

JOAQUIN PACHECO, ALEDO

For the first time in program history, Aledo won a district title. Joaquin Pacheco, the District 5-5A MVP, was leading the charge, paving the way for the Bearcats to secure a 27-7 record.

Pacheco, with a fast handle, strong conditioning and a solid midrange game and finishing ability, averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4 assists and three steals. He was named to the TABC All-Region team and was also voted as the Star-Telegram Readers’ Choice Player of the Year.

DORIAN JOHNSON, FORT WORTH EASTERN HILLS

Dorian Johnson, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, averaged 15 points, 2.7 assists, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game to lead the Highlanders to a 19-9 overall record and a 11-1 district record. He earned TABC All-Region honors.

MESSIAH MILLER, FORT WORTH EASTERN HILLS

Messiah Miller, a senior guard, was an offensive machine for the Highlanders, scoring 22 points per game. He also posted 3.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals en route to TABC All-Region honors.

STEVEN RAMIREZ, KELLER

Steven Ramirez’s season was cut short due to an injury, but he showcased elite play when he was healthy. A Northern Colorado commit, Ramirez averaged 23 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1 block en route to TABC All-Region and Co-District 4-6A MVP honors.

Ramirez can stretch the floor, and he shot 45% from three-point range. He scored a career-high 42 points against SGP, converting eight three-pointers in the process.

He was named the District 4-6A Co-MVP and is also a McDonald’s All-American Nominee. With the help of his leadership, Keller won its third consecutive district title.

JONATHAN WILLIAMS, MANSFIELD TIMBERVIEW

Jonathan Williams led Mansfield Timberview to a 28-8 record and an area round playoff appearance where the Wolves lost to Birdville, an eventual Class 5A Division 1 state finalist. He earned TABC All-State and All-Region honors.

ARI TUMMA, SOUTHLAKE CARROLL

Ari Tumma, the District 4-6A Co-MVP, averaged 24.3 points, 7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals.

Signed to Truman State University, Tumma led the Southlake Carroll Dragons to their first playoff victory in 20 seasons and earned TABC All-Region honors.

All-Area Third Team

AIDEN GROCE, ARLINGTON MARTIN

Aiden Groce, a sophomore point guard, stole the show in his second season with the Martin Warriors, averaging 19 points per game. He had four 30-point games and 11 games with 20 points or more.

He helped lead Martin to a 23-14 overall record and an area round playoff appearance. Groce earned TABC All-Region honors and holds a Division 1 offer from Sam Houston.

JACOBY BOXELL, BROCK

In a successful first year for Brock basketball in Class 4A, Jacoby Boxell led the Eagles to an undefeated district championship.

During the season, he averaged 10.5 points, 3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. In a run to the regional semifinals, Boxell averaged a team-high 14 points while showcasing strong defense, ball handling and scoring ability. Boxell was named to the TABC All-Region team.

KADEN RICHARDSON, CHISHOLM TRAIL

Kaden Richardson, a senior guard, led the Rangers to a playoff berth and a 21-10 record while averaging 19.4 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. He was named the District 5-5A Offensive Player of the Year and is a TABC All-Region selection.

CASH GARDNER, COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE

Cash Gardner, a 6-foot senior guard, averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals to earn TABC All-Region honors. He finished his career with 218 three-pointers, which is a Colleyville Heritage record.

Gardner’s elite play powered the Panthers to a regional final, where they fell to Mansfield Summit, the eventual state champion.

Heritage finished fourth in the district, moving on to showcase improved postseason play with Gardner and teammate Bodey Weaver leading the charge.

KEYAUN WILLIAMS, HURST L.D. BELL

Keyaun Williams, the District 4-6A Offensive Player of the Year and a TABC All-Region selection, was an efficient scoring machine for the Blue Raiders.

While averaging 16.7 points per game, he shot 40% from three-point range and made 114 three-pointers to set a new school record. Williams made three game-winning shots within the last five seconds of district games (Southlake Carroll, Euless Trinity, Eaton) to help power Bell to a playoff appearance.

BRENDAN BALLARD, WEATHERFORD

Brendan Ballard, a senior forward, was named the District 3-6A Defensive Player of the Year and also earned First Team All-District honors in what is arguably the toughest district in Texas.

Ballard averaged 16.7 points and 11 rebounds.
