Arlington Martin product, NFL star Myles Garrett requests trade from Cleveland Browns
Arlington Martin product Myles Garrett, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, Feb. 3. Adam Schefter of ESPN released Garrett’s statement.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl,” Garrett wrote.
Garrett is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and was the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the first player in Martin’s history to be drafted. Before his pro career, he attended Texas A&M, where he earned First Team All-America honors.
In 2013, Garrett was named the Star-Telegram’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Garrett is under contract with the Browns for two more seasons, as he signed a five-year extension in 2020. He registered 14 sacks in the 2024 season and has 102.5 sacks and 20 forced fumbles in his career.
The Browns were committed to keeping Garrett; Browns general manager Andrew Berry told the media that the Browns would not trade Garrett, who has spent all eight seasons with the franchise.
Although Garrett made his request clear, the Browns are sticking to their original stance and don’t intend to have trade conversations, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
