Southlake Carroll’s Davis Penn, one of the best class of 2026 running backs in Texas high school football, has reopened his recruitment.

Penn decommit from Baylor on Saturday, Jan. 25, and had been committed to the Bears since June of 2024. He is a 247Sports three-star prospect with a 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame and is ranked as the No. 38 RB in the current junior class nationwide.

Penn was having a solid season for the Southlake Carroll Dragons, but his year ended early in the area round due to injury. He was averaging an impressive 6.8 yards per carry and totaled 20 touchdowns.

Penn, who recently received an offer from Tulane, also has offers from Arizona State, Texas State, Toledo and Wisconsin, according to 247Sports. As a senior in 2025, he’ll compete with a Southlake Carroll team that is expected to be one of the best in the state.

In 2023, Penn earned Star-Telegram Newcomer of the Year honors. In 2024, he was named a Star-Telegram All-Area Super Team honorable mention.

Penn, who served as a team captain for Carroll as a junior, has tallied 2,740 all-purpose yards and 50 touchdowns in his high school career.
