Denton Ryan five-star decommits from Alabama. Texas’ top unsigned recruit has options
Denton Ryan’s five-star senior recruit Ty Haywood is the most sought-after unsigned recruit in Texas high school football.
Haywood, the No. 7 rated player in Texas by 247Sports, was committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. On Monday, Jan. 13, he officially decommited according to On3Sports, opening his recruitment.
Although the decommitment was not official until Monday, it was more of a formality. Haywood did not sign with Alabama during the early signing period and set up visits with other schools.
The decomittment was more of a formality after he set up visits with other schools. According to On3, Haywood will visit Michigan and is a top target for the Wolverines. With the type of talent he holds, most elite programs in the country will want to pursue him.
Haywood is No. 18 on the ESPN High School Football national recruits leaderboard. The top 50 recruits on ESPN’s list are all signed on to play at the next level, with Haywood being the exception.
The same goes for the highest-ranked recruits in Texas. Haywood is the only athlete within 247Sports’ 50 highest-ranked players to be unsigned.
With most elite senior recruits having already signed, Haywood stands out as the clear top unsigned senior prospect in the nation.
Haywood, who has a 6-foot-5, 285-pound frame, was recently named the Star-Telegram High School Football Super Team. He helped power Denton Ryan to defeat defending champion Aledo and led the team to the state semifinals.
Haywood is expected to make a decision ahead of or on February’s national signing day.
