The final day of the Texas high school football state championships is Saturday, Dec. 21.

The largest classifications (5A Division I, 6A Division II, and 6A Division I) will have new state champions. In the Class 6A Division II matchup, Southlake Carroll (15-0) will face Austin Vandegrift (14-1) with a 3 p.m. scheduled kickoff time at AT&T Stadium.

The Dragons are looking to complete a perfect season and win the program’s ninth state title after returning just five starters from the 2023 squad. Carroll’s team is young, but juniors have stepped into prominent roles to lead the way.

One of those juniors is wide receiver Brock Boyd, a three-star TCU commit. Boyd has put on a show throughout the 2024 season, tallying 1,690 receiving yards and a team-high 18 touchdowns on 98 receptions.

His best performance of the year came in a 42-37 regional semifinal win over Hebron. Boyd tallied 227 yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions, averaging 18.9 yards per catch.

Another stellar moment for the junior was a 135-yard, one-touchdown game vs. Euless Trinity to secure a 56-48 win.

He has been a force all year for the Dragons with eight games over 100 yards receiving. He averages 113 receiving yards per game.

Boyd, with a 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame, has been a highlight machine for Carroll, with an elite ability to fight through contact to make contested catches.

Boyd has been limited to 84 yards in Carroll’s last two playoff games. Although he hasn’t had his usual yardage as of late, keep an eye on him to make a major impact in the title game.

Boyd has elite chemistry with junior quarterback Angelo Renda, who has thrown for 3,550 yards and 36 touchdowns. Renda has an offer from SMU.
