Richmond Randle wins title: SOC’s game-tying field goal misses

In the Class 5A Division II state championship, South Oak Cliff had an opportunity to send it to overtime with a 45-yard game-tying field goal, but it missed wide left; Richmond Randle claimed its first state title with a 38-35 victory to complete a perfect season.

Top-ranked SOC (13-3) has appeared in four consecutive state championships and won in 2021 and 2022. No. 5 Randle (16-0), making its first state title game appearance, has only been a varsity program for three seasons.

Celina’s wait is over; Bobcats blast Kilgore for ninth state title

Celina quarterback Bowe Bentley completed nine of 14 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns as the Bobcats ran away with a 55-21 win over Kilgore in the Class 4A Division I championship.

It was the ninth state title for No. 1 Celina (16-0) in 12 appearances at state and the first state title since 2007. No. 6 Kilgore (13-3) was making its third trip to state with one win in 2004.

Carthage wins 10th state title in defensive slug fest with Waco La Vega

Carthage running back K.J. Edwards rushed for 188 yards on 18 carries with first-half touchdown runs of 21 and 86 yards, en route to Offensive MVP honors, as the Bulldogs pulled away late to outlast Waco La Vega 28-14 in the Class 4A Division II State Championship game before 13,194 at AT&T Stadium.

No. 1 Carthage (15-1) has now won 10 state titles and is just two championships behind Aledo (12) for the most titles all time.

Carthage quarterback Jett Surratt, son of head coach Scott Surratt, tossed a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes of 24 and 19 yards, both to Junior Henderson, to put the game away. Kourtney Parr scored on a one-yard run and Jayven Hernandez scored on a four-yard run as time expired for No. 10 La Vega (12-4), which was seeking its third state title in six appearances.

Carthage linebacker Daquives Beck was named Defensive MVP after recording 10 tackles, seven solo, with a sack and three-and-a-half tackles for losses.
