Day one of Texas high school football state championships: See which schools won titles

Day one of the Texas high school football state championships concluded at AT&T Stadium.

See which school claimed the Class 1A Division One, Class 1A Division Two and Class 2A Division Two state championships.

Muenster defeats Shiner to claim Class 2A D2 state championship

With just over 40 seconds remaining in the Class 2A D2 State Championship, Muenster faced a one-point deficit.

Junior quarterback Casen Carney was the hero, bulldozing his way through multiple Shiner defenders to notch the go-ahead touchdown to give his team a 36-29 victory and a state title.

Carney was named the Offensive MVP; he threw for 171 yards and rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns.

A tip-drill interception from senior free safety Ethan Hinton sealed the deal. Muenster won its second state championship in program history, with its first coming in 2017, the only other year Hornets played in a state title game.

Gordon mercy rules Whiteface to win 1A D1 championship

In the six-man Class 1A Division One state championship, Gordon once again showcased its dominance.

The Longhorns mercy-ruled Whiteface, securing a 70-24 victory 15 seconds into the second half. Gordon has won back-to-back state championships and now has four in program history.

Junior quarterback Stryker Reed earned offensive MVP honors, throwing for 86 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 91 yards and two more scores.

Noah Kostiha, another junior quarterback, threw for 72 yards and two touchdowns, and he also had a 66-yard touchdown reception. Junior Aidan Shank thrived on special teams with a 46-yard kickoff return.

Junior Ry Reed was named the defensive MVP and tallied 11 total tackles, a team-high. He also rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns.

Jayton mercy rules Oakwood to claim 1A D2 title

The six-man Class 1A Division Two state championship between Jayton and Oakwood was the first game of the day. Jayton secured a massive 54-8 victory, ending the game with a 45 point mercy rule before halftime.

Jayton opened the game with a 38-0 run and found themselves with a dominant lead with less than five minutes left in the second quarter. The Jaybirds were relentless, adding 16 more points to end the game early.

Quarterback Sean Stanaland earned offensive MVP honors, passing for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Bode Ham was also a key contributor with a team-high 65 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Colt Gentry earned Defensive MVP honors with a versatile, productive performance. Jayton’s first two touchdowns were fumbles that were returned by Gentry. He then added a receiving touchdown and 24 receiving yards.

Jayton won its third state championship and first since the 1985 season.
