Saginaw head coach Mike Peters accepts job as Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD’s athletic director
Saginaw head coach Mike Peters accepted a job as Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD’s athletic director, PBT ISD announced.
Peters helped turn around Saginaw’s football history, leading the program to its first playoff victory in the 2024 season and an undefeated district championship. The Rough Riders, from 2020 to 2023, tallied an overall record of 3-36.
Peters, who graduated from Pecos High School in 1991, has 25 years of coaching experience and 15 years as an athletic director.
Peters started coaching at Whitney High School before taking an assistant coaching position at Boswell in 2004.
Peters was an assistant when the program started in 2005, serving for 10 years as an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. He was head coach from 2010-2015 before leaving for Fort Stockton ISD to become an athletic director and head coach.
He returned to Saginaw as head coach in the 2022 season, starting the Rough Riders’ successful rebuild.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Peters back to the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah community,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco in a press release. “As a Pecos graduate, he understands the pride and tradition of our community. His proven track record of building winning programs and his commitment to developing student-athletes make him the perfect fit for PBTISD. We are thrilled to welcome him back home.”
Peters, in a press release, said, “Coming back to Pecos is like coming back home.”
“This is where my journey began, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much,” Peters said. “I look forward to working with our students, coaches, and families to build a thriving athletics program that represents the pride and tradition of PBTISD.”
