Regional final UIL volleyball: Things to know, game times, locations from Fort Worth-area
The UIL Texas high school volleyball regional semifinals are here, and a handful of teams from the Fort Worth-area are looking to make the state semifinals. Here are things to know, as well as game times and locations.
Southlake Carroll vs. Byron Nelson
District 4-6A is arguably the best in all of Texas high school volleyball. Southlake Carroll and Byron Nelson proved that with deep playoff runs, and they were bound to run into each other eventually.
Byron Nelson (37-1) and Southlake Carroll (28-10) will clash, and a trip to the state semifinal is on the line. The first serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Curtis Culwell Center.
The Byron Nelson Bobcats are Max Prep’s No. 1 ranked team in the nation. They defeated the Carroll Dragons twice en route to a perfect district play record, but it didn’t come easy; Southlake Carroll took a set in both games.
Although the Bobcats will be a favorite heading into the game, the Dragons have the firepower to pull off the upset. The winner will face College Park or Royse City in the next round.
With Byron Nelson having one of the top sophomore setters in the country in Sophee Peterson and also outside hitter Kylie Klecker, a nominee for the 2024 Max Preps National Player of the Year, a win won’t come easy for the Dragons.
Keller to face Allen
Keller (30-4) finished second behind Byron Nelson in District 4-6A play, but the two teams are not in the same bracket, given the division split. Keller, with higher enrollment, is facing division one schools, and they lined up with the biggest one: Allen (30-12).
The first serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Curtis Culwell Center.
The Allen Eagles turned in an enrollment of 6,947 which is more than double Keller’s enrollment of 3,022 students. Allen took a third place District 6-6A finish behind Plano West and Plano East -- Keller eliminated Plano East while Byron Nelson took down Plano West in the regional semifinals.
Keller can battle with the best; the Indians’ sole district losses were to nationally ranked Byron Nelson. Allen lost in four sets to Plano East twice, while the Indians took them out in three sets.
The winner between Keller and Allen will face Grand Oaks or The Woodlands in the state semifinals.
Aledo to face a powerhouse: Colleyville Heritage
Aledo (34-7) has looked incredibly strong throughout the UIL playoffs, but they’re about the face the toughest challenge yet in Colleyville Heritage (36-6). The Panthers are looking to secure their third consecutive state semifinal appearance; Colleyville Heritage won the state title in the 2022 season.
First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at the W.G. Coliseum. The Panthers are led by outside hitter and BYU commit Suli Davis, one of the top volleyball prospects in the nation.
The winner with face Reedy or McKinney North in the Class 5A D1 state semifinals. Colleyville Heritage and Aledo are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A D1 state rankings.
Argyle to face Lubbock Cooper
Argyle (38-5) will face Lubbock Cooper (31-13) in the regional finals, and details are to be announced.
The Eagles are No. 2 in the TGCA poll behind Lucas Lovejoy. If Argyle is victorious against Cooper, the top two ranked programs will clash in the state semifinals.
Argyle has yet to drop a set in the postseason. The Eagles claimed a tie for first in District 6-5A with its sole loss to Colleyville Heritage; the Panthers beat the Eagles in five sets in September, and then Argyle bounced back with a four-set victory in October.
