UIL cross country state meet: Southlake Carroll boys win sixth consecutive title, more

The UIL Cross Country state meet concluded on Nov. 2 in Round Rock. See the Fort Worth-area athletes and teams who had strong performances below.

Class 5A boys

Grapevine’s team had a fantastic race, taking fourth place. The Mustangs were powered by Andrew Deyoung, who finished 13th as an individual. Juan Gallegos and Kristopher Contreras also contributed with 62nd and 65th finishes, respectively.

Aledo’s team finished 12th. The Bearcats were spearheaded by Tyler Connally, who finished with a 16:01.10 and notched a 14th-place finish. Teammate Jack Fink also thrived, finishing 27th.

Colleyville Heritage’s team finished 16th, led by Thomas Tran, who took a 54th-place finish.

Class 5A girls

Aledo’s team took third place. The Bearcats were led by Molly Garrison, who posted a 18:16.60 time and finished fifth. Teammates Micah Neal and Mykel Murray finished 12th and 15th, respectively, to boost the Bearcats’ team score.

Colleyville Heritage also had a strong showing, placing ninth as a team. The Panthers were led by Natali Velasquez, who took 13th place with a 18:49.50 time.

Sofia Phillips of North Richland Hills Birdville had a strong individual showing, taking fourth place. She missed a podium finish by five seconds.

Burleson Centennial’s Ella Magallan cracked the top 10, recording a 7th place finish with a 18:24.60.

Class 6A boys

Southlake Carroll’s boys team won its sixth consecutive team championship and the 10th in program history. The Dragons were powered by Sophomore Caden Leonard, who defended his individual state title.

Leonard posted a 14:50.5 and was the only runner to finish under 15 minutes. His teammate, Blake Bullard, finished eighth with a 15:15.80, while Griffin Cords also posted a strong time of 15:24.20.

Southlake Carroll’s Kai Gutierrez, Alex Severson, Jaxon Glenn and Michael Fuller finished 27th, 43rd, 48th and 78th, respectively.

Byron Nelson’s boy’s team finished 11th, with Liam Bengtsson’s 16-minute, 47th-place finish paving the way. Teammate Matthias Peterson followed behind with a 16:04.20 mark and a 54th-place finish.

Keller’s Boston Bowcott had a strong individual race, taking 24th with a 15:43.50 time.

Class 6A girls

Lewisville Flower Mound’s team took first place powered by three incredibly strong individual performances. Adeline Bennett paved the way with a 17:43.70 time and a fourth-place finish. Alexandra Fox followed closely behind, finishing three-tenths of a second later. Ava Cole secured a sixth-place finish, notching an 18-minute finish.

Byron Nelson’s girl’s team finished fourth, led by Reyna Heisserer’s 28th-place finish. Teammate Elena Sather was another strong contributor with an 18:56.50 time and finishing 40th.

Talia Ramirez and MJ Novelli played a key role with 51st and 53rd finishes, respectively.

Southlake Carroll’s girls team took sixth place with Sarayu Veluri’s 34th place finish paving the way. Abigail Perez followed behind, taking 52nd.

Keller’s Clare Boneau had a strong individual showing, taking 13th place with an 18:20.50 time. Weatherford’s Remington Boone also raced well, finishing in 24th.
