The Texas high school volleyball playoffs commence on Nov. 4, and Fort Worth-area teams are making the final pushes toward the postseason.

Here are a few things to know from top area teams.

Class 6A: Byron Nelson’s sweep, Lake Ridge’s success, more

Byron Nelson volleyball isn’t just Texas’s No. 1 ranked Class 6A program. The Bobcats are now the No. 1 ranked high school volleyball team in the United States.

Head coach Brianne Groth and company recently took on Keller, a top team in District 4-6A, arguably Texas’ strongest district. The Bobcats secured a sweep, preventing Keller from reaching more than 16 points in a set.

Byron Nelson (30-1, 12-0 District 4-6A) now has a 26-game win streak with four games remaining in the regular season. The Class 6A state championship contenders will host V.R. Eaton (24-14, 7-5) on Oct. 18.

Looking around Class 6A, two other area teams are thriving in their respective districts: Arlington Martin and Mansfield Lake Ridge.

The Martin Warriors (26-10, 10-0 District 8-6A) are undefeated in district play. According to Max Peps, Martin hasn’t dropped a single set since the start of September.

Mansfield Lake Ridge (33-9, 7-1 District 3-6A) is not undefeated in district play but is the clear front-runner in District 3-6A. A five-set match loss to Mansfield Legacy is the Eagles’ sole loss.

Lake Ridge has an opportunity to avenge the loss on Oct. 25. The Eagles already defeated Boswell and Weatherford, two more teams in the hunt for a district title; the Pioneers and Roos will have a shot at revenge before the regular season’s end.

Class 5A: Argyle stuns Colleyville Heritage, Aledo’s streak, more

Colleyville Heritage (28-6, 7-1) was undefeated in District 6-5A play until Oct. 16, when Argyle took down the Panthers in four sets. The match between two of the Fort Worth-area’s best was extremely close (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23).

Delany Galligan, Jordyn Moore and Piper Mickenheim stood out as top performers.

Galligan was an offensive force with 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Moore was an all-around floor general and defender with 12 kills, 22 assists, 20 digs and two blocks.

Mickenheim was elite defensively, with eight assists and a team-high 27 digs.

Colleyville Heritage won the two team’s first matchup in five sets on Sept. 20 and is still in a decent position to win a district title. Argyle (31-5, 8-1) has one more win than Heritage with one more game played.

The Panthers, led by BYU commit and Under Armour All-American Team member Suli Davis, have been a force in Class 5A in recent years. Colleyville Heritage won a state title in 2022 and made the state semifinals in 2023.

Another team in a solid position to make some noise is Aledo. The Bearcats (27-7, 8-0 District 5-5A D1) are on a 16-game win streak and haven’t dropped a set in district play. Aledo even took down Highland Park, a team that bested Byron Nelson, in four sets.

Class 4A: Brock, Eagle Mountain lead the way

In the Class 4A volleyball realm, District 6-4A stands out with several top teams.

Brock (26-10, 6-0), Glen Rose (26-7, 5-1) and Stephenville (19-13, 4-2) are all fighting for the top spots and are all ranked by Max Preps as top 20 squads in Class 4A.

The Brock Eagles have a slight edge with an undefeated district play record but will have to defeat Glen Rose and Stephenville again in the final two games of the regular season.

Four teams—Eagle Mountain, Decatur, Springtown, and Krum — are vying for the top spot in District 7-4A.

Eagle Mountain (23-17, 8-2) currently holds the top spots with one more win than Decatur but the same amount of losses. The Knights are in their debut season.

Eagle Mountain lost to Decatur and Springtown in the first half of district play but bounced back with a win over Springtown on Oct. 15. To close the regular season on Oct. 29, the Knights will face Decatur in what could be a pivotal positioning game.
