Carroll ISD appointed Southlake Carroll head coach Riley Dodge as the executive director of athletics, the school district announced on Friday.

Dodge served as Carroll’s athletic coordinator and will now step into a position that oversees all athletic programs at Carroll ISD.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue leading the Dragons to future success and Lone Star Cup Titles,” Dodge said via a press release. “I look forward to working alongside our amazing coaches in Carroll ISD to help our student athletes reach their full potential.”

The Carroll Dragons won the Class 6A Lone Star Cup in 2023. The trophy will be presented to Carroll ISD at halftime of the Southlake Carroll-Hurst L.D. Bell football game at Dragon Stadium on October 25.

In 2023, Dodge led the Dragons to the Class 6A Division I state semifinal, where the team lost to DeSoto, the eventual state champion.

In his career as Southlake Carroll’s head coach, Dodge has led the Dragons to a 80-8 overall record and five district titles.

“Coach Dodge has proven himself to be a dedicated and visionary leader both on and off the field,” said Superintendent of Carroll ISD, Dr. Jeremy Gelnn. “His passion for the development of our student-athletes and his commitment to our district’s values make him the perfect choice for this expanded role.”

Dodge, as a player, led Southlake Carroll to three state championships, earning Texas high school football player of the year honors. He has college football experience at the University of North Texas and McNeese State University.

Riley Dodge, the son of legendary former Carroll head coach Todd Dodge, was hired as Carroll’s head football coach in 2018. In 2020, he led the Dragons to a state championship appearance.

Dodge is taking over as executive director for Steve Keasler, who is joining the University of North Texas’ staff as an associate director for name, image and likeness, or NIL.
