Fort Worth South Hills defeats Diamond Hill-Jarvis, snaps lengthy losing streak
Both the Fort Worth South Hills Scorpions and Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles came into Clark Stadium Thursday night looking to start the new season with a win.
The Eagles had hopes that a victory would set the tone for the rest of the year. But it was the Scorpions that ended up securing a resounding 59-6 win.
While any team would be happy to start their season with this win, it meant even more to the Scoprions because South Hills did not win a single game in the 2023 season. In fact, the Scorpions had only won two games in the last three years.
“I am happy for these kids, they are the ones that put in the work, I am just here to kind of guide them,” South Hills head coach Mika Harp said. “I couldn’t be any more blessed to be around this group of kids and have them do this because we have put in a lot of hard work this off season.”
Harp said the team has focused on building a family mentality.
“Families live together and they die together and we are choosing to live a little bit this year,” Harp said.
One of those players that really lived it up on the field was sophomore Trey Cook. Cook scored four touchdowns throughout the night. He was happy to lead his team to a long awaited victory.
“It felt great, we ain’t had nothing like that in a long time,” Cook said.
South Hills fans remember similar excitement when now Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Tylan Wallace was on the field making big plays for the Scorpions. But for now, the South Hills fans are celebrating a big win and looking forward to the rest of this season.
That next opponent will be at Castleberry next Friday, Sept. 6. Diamond Hill-Jarvis’s next opponent will be Fort Worth North Side High School Thursday, Sept. 5 at Farrington Field.
