Liberty Christian’s CJ Witten, son of Cowboys legend Jason Witten, announces commitment

Argyle Liberty Christian linebacker CJ Witten, the son of Cowboys legend Jason Witten, committed to Rice University on Wednesday.

CJ Witten is preparing to start his senior year with Liberty Christian, and Jason Witten is serving as the team’s head coach. The father and son duo helped lead the Liberty Christian Warriors to a perfect season and a TAPPS D2 State Championship last year.

CJ Witten, an All-TAPPS player, had a monster junior year, earning Star-Telegram First Team All-Area honors. He made 108 tackles, and 81 of them were solo. He also had seven sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 37 quarterback hurries, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble en route to being named the District 2 D1 Defensive Player of the Year.

Witten, with a 6-foot-1, 217 pound frame, will serve as one of Liberty Christian’s captain’s this season. He has elite speed with a 4.55 second 40 yard dash.

Witten had offers from Arkansas State, Army, Houston Christian, Lamar, Missouri State, Navy and UTEP.

The Liberty Christian Warriors will start the season against Fort Bend Christian Academy on Aug. 30 at home. CJ will share the field with Cooper Witten, his brother; Cooper is a four-star sophomore safety with offers from Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU and more.
