Presenting the 2023-24 Star-Telegram boys high school sports individual awards recipients:

Athlete of the Year: Chris Jimerson Jr., North Crowley

North Crowley football took another step towards the mountaintop of Texas high school football, and junior quarterback Chris Jimerson Jr. led the charge as the orchestrator of a record-setting offense that averaged 56 points.

Jimerson led North Crowley to 14 wins and a regional final appearance, marking another step in the program’s ascent. The Panthers, representing Fort Worth and Crowley ISD in Texas football’s largest classification, lost to Duncanville, the eventual Class 6A D1 state champions.

Jimerson, the District 3-6A MVP, tallied 3,031 passing yards and averaged 202 per game. He was also a threat on his legs with 1,089 toal rushing yards and an average of 73 per game.

Jimerson threw 40 touchdowns passes and rushed for 12 touchdowns. In the playoffs, he led the Panthers to victories over Allen and Prosper.

Jimerson originally committed to TCU as a wide receiver but reopened his commitment on June 19 to look for an opportunity as a quarterback. He’ll announce his commitment on July 12, and four schools are finalists: North Texas, Texas State, Louisiana and Arkansas State.

Before Jimerson starts his journey as a collegiate athlete, he’ll finish his high school career with North Crowley. With his junior year being extremely productive, there are high expectations for Jimerson as a senior.
