UIL track and field 2024 state meet: Which local athletes won state championships?

The 2024 UIL track and field meet is underway, and Fort Worth-area athletes are competing for state championships.

Saturday, May 4

Mansfield’s Zion Robinson took second place in the Class 6A boys high jump with a 6-8 mark.

Southlake Carroll’s star sophomore Caden Leonard placed second in the Class 6A boys 3200 with a 8:51.57 time. It was a photo finish, and Leonard was only 0.07 seconds behind the first place winner: Bridgeland’s Benjamin Montgomery.

Leonard’s teammate, Zach Troutman, came in right behind Leonard with a 8:51.64 time.

Although Leonard lost the 3200, he came out on top in the 1600 with a winning time of 4:09.

In the boys Class 6A shot put, Arlington Lamar’s Evan Martinez won a state title with a 62-8 throw. Southlake Carroll’s Bowen Fleming took third with a 59-9.75.

Martinez also claimed a first place finish in the discuss throw with a dominant 185-6 mark.

In the girls Class 6A 4 x 100, Duncanville’s team of Ashley Lister, De’Kayla Simpson, Aaliyah Gipson and Sanyah Keeton secured the state championship with a 44.7 time. Byron Nelson secured third place with a 45.43 time.

In the boys Class 6A 4 x 100, Humble Atascocita won the state championship and set the second fastest mark in national history with a 39.14 time. Duncanville came in second, finishing with a time of 39.47.

In the Class 6A girls 800, Flower Mound’s Nicole Humphries secured first place with a 2:06.24 time.

In the girls Class 6A 100 meter, North Crowley’s Indya Mayberry won the state championship and set the 6A state meet record with a time of 11.21.

Mayberry also took first in the 200 with a winning time of 22.82, setting the new state record.

Arlington Bowie’s Bailey finished right behind Mayberry with a 23.06.

Duncanville got its revenge in the 4 x 200 in both boys and girls races. In the Class 6A girls race, the Panthers team of Gabrielle Goodgames, Ashley Lister, Aaliyah Gipson and Sanyah Keeton posted a winning time of 1:35.67.

In the Class 6A boys race, Duncanville’s team of Brayden Williams, Caden Durham, Ayson Theus and Dakorien Moore won the state title and set a national record with a 1:22.25 time. The Panthers’ bested the previous record by more than a second.

Byron Nelson’s Skylar Brazzell took second in the girls Class 6A 400 with a 53.84 time.

Friday, May 3

Lauren St Peters of Aledo dominated the Class 5A girls shot put, winning the state championship with a 48-9.75 mark. She threw the shot nearly 3feet further than the second place finisher.

In the boys shot put, Mansfield Summit’s Travis Buhake secured third place with a 59-11 mark.

Burleson Centennial’s London Tucker also took third place in her respective event, posting a 18-9.5 mark in the Class 5A girls long jump.

In the girls Class 5A triple jump, Alleah Krote of Fort Worth Arlington Heights took second place 40-4.5 mark. Mansfied Summit’s Dorie Davis claimed third place with a 39-2.50 mark.

In the boys 5A triple jump, White Settlement Brewer’s Brandon Jr Clark finished third with a 46-2.75 mark.

Aledo’s Taylor Hindman secured third place in the Class 5A girls pole vault with a 12-6 mark.

In the Class 5A girls 4 x 100 dash, Fort Worth Wyatt’s team of Ericka Wyatt, Jayla Ford, Javia Lane and Nia Trammell took second place with a 46.37 time, which was 0.29 seconds slower than Lancaster’s winning team.

Justin Northwest’s Cooper Lutkenhaus set the national record for a freshman in the Class 5A boys 800 meter race, claiming first place with a 1:49.84 time.

In the Class 5A boys 110 hurdles, Mansfield Timberview’s Alex Moore took third place with a 14.03 time.

Fort Worth Wyatt’s Malik Franklin won the state champioship in the Class 5A boys 400 meter with a winning time of 47.23. With the win, Franklins secured back-to-back championships.

In the boys Class 5A 300 hurdles, Mansfield Timberview’s Cameron Bates won the state title with a 37.04 time. Bates is also a standout football player for the Wolves.

Bates was also part of Timberview’s Class 5A boys 4 x 400 meter relay team that took second place. His teammates were Brandon Gilmore, Nye’gil Wright and Chance Collins; the team posted a 3:15.95 time.

Thursday, May 2

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis star athlete Angel Sanchez has done it again.

Sanchez claimed the boys Class 4A 3200 state championship, posting a time of 9:14.44, which was nearly five seconds faster than the second place finisher.

Sanchez, a senior, won the cross country state championship in November, defending his 2022 state title. Last year, he was unable to compete in track due to leg injuries.

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis’ superstar ended his athletic career with another state championship win, finishing first in the 4A boys 1600 with a 4:13.08 time, which is a new Class 4A record. He finished less than half a second behind Ryan Fernandez of Canyon.

Trevor Upton of Maypearl High School won the boys Class 3A pole vault state championship with a 15-3 mark.

In the Class 4A boys high jump, Aislee Bynum of Bridgeport claimed the gold with a 6-8 mark.

Creece Brister of Stephenville, a TCU football commit, won the Class 4A boys shotput state championship with a 57-3.75 mark.

In the Class 4A girls long jump, Falyn Lott of Frisco Panther Creek won the state title with a 19-0.25 mark. Her brother, Jalen Lott, won the boys Class 4A state title with a 22-9.25 mark.

Falyn Lott also won the state title in the girls’ 300 hurdles.

Abby Elmore of Gunter High School won the Class 3A High Jump state title with a 5-7 mark.

Easton Hatleberg of Grandview won the boys Class 3A shot put state championship with a 59-7.25 mark.

Frisco Panther Creek continued its strong showing at the UIL state meet with Hannah Ford winning the Class 4A girls triple jump with a 40-0 mark.

In the boys Class 3A 4 x 100, Brock secured fourth place with a 42.06 time. In the Class 4A girls 4 x 100, Fort Worth Dunbar finished third with a 47.50 time.

Dunbar also thrived in the Class 4A girls 100 hurdles with Kalani Lawson defending her state championship. Lawson set the UIL state record last year and she recorded a faster time this year, running the hurdles in 13.89 seconds.

In the boys’ class 3A 110 hurdles, Brock’s Dylan Foster narrowly lost the state title, recording a 13.89, which was 0.06 seconds slower than Hunter Vaughn of Pattonville Prairiland.

Foster bounced back with a state championship win in the 300 meter hurdles, posting a winning time of 37.39 seconds.

Thursday’s schedules includes Class 3A and Class 4A field and running events.
