Volleyball playoffs: Keller secures big victory, more from Fort Worth-area teams
The regional quarterfinals of the Texas high school volleyball playoffs concluded.
The teams remaining are one step closer to punching a ticket to the state championships. Here’s a roundup of how Fort Worth-area teams performed.
Class 6A
Southlake Carroll (31-12) has been dominant in region one, sweeping through the opening three games without dropping a single set. The Dragons have won 17 consecutive games, and cruised to victory against Eastlake with a 25-23, 25-9, 25-13 performance.
Southlake Carroll will face Propser (35-9) at 5 p.m. Saturday at the W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City.
Keller (26-13) got the best of Trophy Club Byron Nelson (32-5) in a battle of Fort Worth-area teams that was a five set thriller. The Indians lost to the Bobcats twice in the regular season, but got the victory when it mattered most.
In 2022, Keller made it all the way to the class 6A state semifinal. Do the Indians have another deep playoff run on the way?
Keller will face Flower Mound (33-7) at 7 p.m. at the W.G. Coliseum.
Class 5A
Grapevine (20-21) was eliminated by Argyle (39-7), losing in three sets. The Mustangs couldn’t quite match the Eagles’ firepower, losing 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.
Argyle will face Lubbock Cooper (32-12) next, and the Pirates will have a home advantage of sorts. The game will start at 6 p.m. Saturday and will be played at Lubbock Coronado High School.
Colleyville Heritage (38-10) took down Aledo (34-9) in four sets to advance. The Panthers won a close third set over the Bearcats, 26-24, and were able to capitalize on the momentum by taking the fourth set, 25-18.
Will the 2022 Class 5A state champions repeat? Next, the Panthers will face Amarillo Tascosa (30-14) 8 p.m. Saturday at Lubbock Coronado High School.
Class 4A
Decatur (23-17) fell to Glen Rose (27-16) in four sets. The Tigers dropped the second set 25-16 but sets one, three and four were the same score: 25-21. Glen Rose will face Randall at 6 p.m. Saturday at Frenship High School.
Springtown was eliminated by Stephenville in three sets. The Porcupines couldn’t get over the hump, losing 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18. Stephenville will advance to face West Plains 8 p.m. Saturday at Frenship High School.
