Cross country results: Southlake Carroll wins state title, more from Fort Worth-area

The UIL Texas cross country state championships concluded in Round Rock, Texas. Class 5A, 3A and 1A competed on Friday and Class 6A, 4A and 2A competed on Saturday.

To see full results for all the runners in Texas, head to the UIL’s website. Here’s a summary of what Fort Worth-area teams accomplished.

Class 6A boys: Southlake Carroll wins state title

Southlake Carroll won the class 6A state championship with sophomore Caden Leonard claiming the individual title with a time of 15:00.10. Teammate Blake Bullard finished shortly after, placing fourth and securing a time of 15:09.10.

Dragon cross country won it’s fifth consecutive state championship and ninth in program history.

Mansfield Legacy senior Toby Eaton had a strong showing, finishing with a time of 15:21.20.

Class 6A girls: Southlake Carroll places second

Southlake Carroll’s girls also shined, placing second overall as a team in class 6A. Junior Elizabeth Smits led the way, placing 10th and completing the event in 17:50.60. Teammate Alexandra Walsh followed directly behind, taking 11th place.

Another Fort Worth-area squad that thrived was Trophy Club Byron Nelson. The Bobcats took fourth place as a team, barely missing the podium; Junior MJ Novelli paved the way, crossing the finish line at 12th.

Class 5A boys: Richland athlete wins big

Senior Ethan Gonzalez from Richland high school won the Class 5A Boys state championship, posting a 14:55.80 5K time. He was the only athlete to come in at under 15 minutes and bested the second place finisher by 24 seconds.

Argyle senior Tyler Westrom placed ninth with a time of 15:31.20, and junior Jack Fink of Aledo high school placed 20th with a time of 15:55.10.

Jason Dodd of Fort Worth South Hills had a strong individual showing with a 16:13.30 overall time.

Senior Brett Jacobs led Colleyville Heritage to a sixth place team finish, placing 31st individually. Argyle cam in right behind Colleyville Heritage, securing a seventh place team finish. The Aledo Bearcats notched a 10th place team finish.

Class 5A girls: Aledo places second

Burleson Centennial’s Ella Magallan had the highest placing finish of Fort Worth-area Class 5A athletes, recording a time of 18:12.70, placng sixth.

Aledo’s Micah Neal came in two seconds behind her, placing seventh, and teammate Molly Garrison finished 12th. The Bearcats, as a team, podiumed with a second place finish.

Natali Velasquez and Josie Osbourne of Colleyville Heritage placed 11th and 15th, respectively. The two strong performances powered the Panthers to a fourth place team finish.

Fellow Grapevine-Colleyville ISD school Grapevine finished close behind, posting a sixth place team finish.

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis senior wins individual title

Senior Angel Sanchez of Fort Worth Diamond Hill Jarvis won the individual class 4A state title. He was dominant, crossing the finish line nine seconds before the second place finisher.

Alvarado’s 16th ranked team finish was the highest of area schools.
