Fort Worth Carter Riverside secures first district win, takes down Diamond Hill Jarvis
Fort Worth Carter-Riverside and Diamond Hill-Jarvis both came into Thursday’s matchup at Scarborough-Handley Field looking for their first win in district play this season in the annual battle of the Eagles.
The Eagles from Carter-Riverside came out on top, 41-0.
“I’m really proud of our guys, this is a kind of mix batch of team, got a lot of younger and several older guys and a gap in between,” Carter-Riverside head coach Phillip Murray said. “I’m really proud of the older guys leading and the younger guys for learning.”
One of the older guys who is leading Carter-Riverside is senior running back Jameer Muhammad. Muhammad leads the team in scoring this season. He averages 164.6 rushing yards per game and 23.1 receiving yards per game.
The first score of the night came from Muhammad, who tallied his 15th touchdown of the season. This time, it was a 6-yard touchdown that put Carter-Riverside up 7-0.
“Overall, he has worked really hard for his team,” Murray said.
Carter-Riverside was determined to strengthen their lead. Muhammad also scored the next touchdown of the game. This time it was an 80-yard touchdown to put his team up 14-0 with 7:45 remaining in the second quarter.
“Jameer is a do it all kind of guy, whether it is receiving or rushing,” Murray said.
Carter-Riverside led 20-0 going into the half.
The standout performance by Muhammad continued through the entire night. He made a 69-yard touchdown with 10:09 left in the third quarter to put Carter-Riverside up 27-0.
The next touchdown was scored by Dalyn Stewart with 2:01 remaining in the third quarter.
The final score of the night came with 1:25 remaining in the game, and Carter-Riverside won 41-0. Muhammad said he told his teammates to “just keep fighting.”
That final game of the season for Carter-Riverside will be next Thursday, November 2 at Scarborough-Handley Field. They’ll be taking on Castleberry.
The final game of the season for Diamond Hill-Jarvis will be next Saturday, November 4 against Western Hills.
