These 5 Fort Worth-area volleyball teams have the tools, momentum for deep playoff runs
Only three weeks remain in the high school volleyball regular season.
Which Fort Worth-area teams have the most momentum? Here are five squads that have solid records and the tools to make noise in the playoffs.
Southlake Carroll
The Southlake Carroll (23-12, 8-0 Distirct 4-6A) girls volleyball team is protecting the winning tradition. The Dragons have twelve losses, but most are to quality opponents.
Regardless of how the season started, one thing is clear: Southlake Carroll volleyball has lots of momentum with the end of the regular season on the horizon. The Dragons have won nine in a row and are undefeated in District 4-6A play.
Carroll volleyball has 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Keller, one of the historically better schools in the area. The Dragons also took down Trophy Club Nelson to prove they are the team to beat in District 4-6A.
Middle blocker Kinsley Young’s efficiency at the net stands out. She is averaging 2.5 kills per set with a .410 hitting percentage, and she’s been a force on the defensive end with 99 total blocks.
Trophy Club Nelson
Speaking of Trophy Club Nelson, the Bobcats (25-4, 5-2 District 4-6A) are arguably the best team in the Dallas-Fort Worth-area with a stellar record to back it up. They’ve only fallen four times this season.
Two of those loses were to the Dragons, which is nothing to be ashamed about. The Bobcats leaving non district play with only two losses is a significant accomplishment. Sophomore outside hitter Ashlyn Seay is leading the offense averaging 4.1 kills per set and middle blocker Nora Conway is a force at the net with 79 total blocks.
Colleyville Heritage
Colleyville Heritage (30-10, 7-2 District 7-5A) is one of the teams to beat in District 7-5A. Two other top teams are also fighting for the top spot: Argyle (31-7, 9-0) and Birdville (24-11, 7-2).
All three teams can make some noise come playoff time. The Panthers have won three in a row and are set to face Argyle on Tuesday at home with a 6:30 p.m. CT start time. In their last matchup, the Panthers fell in three sets. Will the second go around be any different?
Junior outside hitter Suli Davis has been leading the offense, averaging an impressive 5.4 kills per set with the help of freshman setter Claire Bundy. Davis has been a key contributor on defense as well, averaging 3.3 digs per set.
Keller
Keller volleyball (19-12, 5-3 District 4-6A) has had a rough go of it in district play by their standards. In 2022, the Indians posted an elite 33-12 overall record and a 12-2 district record in rout to the Class 6A State Championship Semifinal.
To start the season, Keller volleyball had a new look with several experienced players graduating from the program. If there’s anyone that can rally the young Keller Indians to a playoff run as they continue to gain experience, it’s head coach Danielle Barker.
Keller has a proven track record, so don’t be surprised if they turn things around. Middle blocker Anna Boatner provides a strong defensive foundation with a team high 114 total blocks. Sophomore setter Anna Flores has a whopping 804 total assists and also ranks second on the team with 2.5 digs per set.
Aledo
Aledo volleyball (26-8, 7-1) is thriving in District 5-5A. The Bearcats are on a seven game winning streak; their last loss was to Justin Northwest in three sets, but they avenged the loss Oct. 3 with a four set victory.
The Bearcats even bested Katy Tompkins, a team that made the Class 6A State Championship in 2022. Last year, Aledo won one playoff game. Can they make a deeper run in 2023?
Outside hitter Vivian Parker is stuffing the stat sheet with 3.7 kills and 5.7 digs per set, both of which are team highs.
