CROWLEY – Crowley dominated Saginaw Chisholm Trail from start to finish and celebrated its’ homecoming in style

The Eagles (6-0, 3-0 District 3-6A) won 49-3 Friday night at Crowley ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium to stay undefeated, and they spread the wealth around. A different player scored each of the seven touchdowns.

Quarterback Caleb Williams threw for two scores and ran for another. He completed 9 of 17 passes for 116 yards. Teammate Tamondre Bowie also returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter for a 42-3 lead.

Jordan Green, Caleb Pope, and Jae’vin Jones all had touchdown runs. Curtis Johnson and Derrick Tasby, Jr. were both on the receiving end of Williams’ touchdown passes.

Crowley outgained Chisholm Trail 298 to 144 yards on offense. Head coach Carlos Lynn of Crowley was pleased overall with his team’s performance but saw room for improvement.

“We had a few little bumps especially in the first half,” Lynn said. “But then we left some money on the table. It was a lack of execution.”

Crowley was flagged 10 times for 97 yards in penalties and Lynn said it’s been an “ongoing deal.”

“We need to curtail that as we move forward,” Lynn said.

Lynn said the team is excited to control its own destiny and compete for a district championship.

“We just take it one at a time,” Lynn said. “I don’t want to look too far ahead –just what’s in front of me.”

Crowley plays North Crowley, who is also undefeated, in the final game of the season.

Crowley secures and holds lead

Crowley scored two touchdowns less than three and half minutes into the contest. The Eagles led 28-0 at halftime.

Their first touchdown came after stopping Chisholm Trail (1-5, 0-3) on fourth-and-two at its’ 42-yard line. Christian Blake penetrated to nail running back Israel Kaloso two yards behind the line of scrimmage.

The Eagles took over and drove 42 yards in three plays. Green ran in from 23 yards out for a 7-0 lead.

The next two touchdowns came courtesy of turnovers.

The first was on the ensuing kickoff. Jacque Overton recovered for the Eagles at the Trail 20. Two plays later, Williams was in the end zone. He kept for an 18-yard score.

The third score came after another fumble recovery from the Eagle defense at the Chisholm Trail 34-yard line. Crowley capitalized with a six-play, 66-yard drive capped by a 7-yard run by Caleb Pope.

The fourth touchdown before halftime was a 32-yard pass to Johnson from Williams. It was a well-placed ball that the receiver caught down the left sideline in stride over his shoulder near the goal line just before the front pylon.

After intermission, Chisholm Trail seemed to come out of the locker room and play more inspired ball albeit briefly. The defense forced a three-and-out on the opening kickoff drive from the Crowley 21.

Chisholm Trail took over at the Crowley 36. After losing yards on the first play, Israel Kaloso burst through for 35 yards to the Crowley 7. The Eagle defense stiffened from there, however, and Chisholm Trail was forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal from Roman Hernandez.

After an exchange of punts, Crowley struck again for 35-3 lead with 2:25 left in the third quarter. Williams hit Tasby from 34 yards out near the goal line on a post.

Finally, in the fourth quarter, Bowie stepped in front of the quarterback’s throw and returned it 90 yard the opposite direction for a 42-3 lead. It ruined a drive By Chisholm Trail from midfield to the 10-yard line.

The last score was a 4-yard run by Jones midway in the final stanza.

Crowley’s next game is Friday, Oct. 13, against Fort Worth Paschal at Farrington Field at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Chisholm Trail, meanwhile, will play Euless Trinity the same day and time at Pennington Field in Bedford.
