Why did an Aledo Bearcat offensive lineman commit to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns?
Devron “DJay” Williams Jr., an offensive tackle and guard from Aledo high school, announced Friday on Twitter that he is committed to Louisiana.
In 2022, Williams Jr. earned first team all-district honors, winning a Class 5A Division One State Championship in the process. The Aledo lineman is 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds. Williams Jr. is rated as a three-star prospect by Dave Campbell’s High School Football.
According to the Bearcat offensive lineman, his greatest strength on the field is defined by one simple thing: moving people.
“Being able to move somebody against their will while also being able to know my job,” Williams Jr. told the Star-Telegram on Friday. “Knowing how to block them, where to put ‘em and how to work with my teammates around me.”
Devron Williams said the biggest reason he decided to commit to Louisiana was to join his brother, Quinton Williams, on the football team. Quinton Williams, a redshirt sophomore right tackle, told his brother what the program is about and how it operates.
Off the field, Williams Jr. said he focuses on spending time with his friends and family. He mentioned he wants to become a veterinarian down the line and added Louisiana was one of the few schools interested in him who had an animal science program.
Williams Jr. had several offers, which included from Navy, Arizona State, North Texas, Texas State and Memphis. UTSA made the final two on his list, but Williams Jr. ultimately decided to go with the Ragin’ Cajuns.
“They’re both really great schools,” Williams Jr. said. “And, really, the deciding factor was my older brother.”
Williams Jr. said he’s in a close knit family, and compared his relationship to his brother to yin and yang. If there’s anyone who knows how to bring the best out of Devron Williams Jr., it’s Quinton Williams.
During his freshman season at Aledo, Devron Williams Jr. said Quinton Williams, a senior at the time, showed him the ropes. Now, his brother can do it again; this time, it’ll be on the collegiate level.
