Weatherford 58, Bell 52

Jaylin Smith dropped a game-high 23 points and the Kangaroos held off a fierce fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Blue Raiders on the road in 3-6A on Friday.

Weatherford won its first district game (1-2) and snapped a 6-game district losing streak dating back to last season. The loss dropped Bell to 1-2 as well.

According to MaxPreps, the Roos had lost their previous seven meetings with Bell since the 2018-19 season.

Kane Chandler chipped in 12 points for Weatherford.

A dunk from Smith gave the Roos a 12-point cushion with three minutes left in the game, but Bell got hot from downtown to cut it to a one-possession game.

Tanner Taylor and Josh Dyer hit back-to-back threes to get Bell within six with 2:30 to play. A three from Mason Erickson made it 52-48 with two minutes.

Bell had a chance to cut it again with it picked up a steal on the next Weatherford possession, but a three was missed and rebounded by the Roos. The Roos hit both free throws and Dyer hit another trey to get it to 54-51 with 1:34 left.

Dyer was fouled on a three with 32 seconds left, but hit just 1 of 3 attempts to make it a 2-point game.
