Boys

Colleyville Heritage 72, Richland 57

Sammon Johnson dropped a game-high 26 points and the Panthers rolled past the Royals in District 7-5A.

Heritage, No. 14 in the Class 5A state rankings, moved to 2-0 and 15-4 overall. Richland is 0-2 and 17-4.

Johnson hit two quick threes in the first quarter and the Panthers led 15-6 to force a Richland timeout. Johnson had 11 in the first quarter and Heritage led 17-9 after the period.

It was 22-11 after a Tristan Strength three and a basket from Jaden Jenkins made it 27-14 midway through the second quarter. 6-10 center Tim Finau’s layup made it 29-19.

Heritage led 35-25 at intermission.

Richland got baskets in the third quarter from Nelson Mandangu and Keyllen Fraizer, plus an and-one from Mark Rucha to make it 43-32. A Jenkins floater and Zedrick Carter contested basket pushed the lead to 18 in the third.

Cash Gardner hit a three and the lead was 20.

Justin Northwest 55, Azle 50

Carter Donoho and Dewayne Waldon led the Texans with 17 and 16 points, respectively and Northwest picked up its first win in 5-5A.

Northwest is 1-1 while Azle dropped to 0-2.

Jamaryus Johnson hit a baseline jumper to give Northwest a 21-19 lead with 4:50 left in the first half. Azle pulled within two after a 4-point play from Gavin Dean.

Johnathan Anderson hit back-to-back baskets for the Texans to make it 29-25. Donoho beat the buzzer and the Texans led 31-29 at the break. A three from Dean gave Azle a 34-33 lead with 5:36 left in the third.

Azle used a 7-0 and 9-2 run to go up 38-35. Sawyer Dotson made a shot and then found Jayden Rollins for a layup. Northwest responded with a 9-0 run and led 44-38 after the period. It was 11 in a row before Dean hit two free throws.

Anderson got a steal and Waldon hit a layup to make it 48-40 with under five minutes left.

Byron Nelson 81, Keller 66

Butler bound guard Finley Bizjack scored 33 points and the Bobcats won their eighth straight game and improved to 2-0 in District 4-6A.

Keller drops to 1-1.

Conner Lindsey and Jonah Breeden chipped in 16 and 13 points, respectively for Byron.

The Bobcats led 18-15 after the first quarter before outscoring the Indians by 10 in the second to take a 39-26 at halftime. The lead grew to 22 after the third.

Brooks Bahr led Keller with 20 points. Parker Hannah added 16.

The Indians held the Bobcats to three points in the third quarter and then held them off in the fourth to pick up a win in District 4-6A.

Keller moved to 3-1 while Byron dropped its first district game at 3-1.

Keller led 12-9 after one and 28-24 at half.

The Indians were led by Renee Chmiel, who had 18 points. She went 8 of 9 from the line. Jaeden Gillam chipped in 16 points with nine coming in the second quarter.

Hannah Pinney and Jessica Makayabo had 10 each for the Bobcats.

Justin Northwest 41, Azle 37

The Texans held on to beat the Hornets and picked up a key road district win in 5-5A. Northwest moved to 3-1 while Azle dropped to 2-1.

Sydney Zenon and Avery McConnell led Northwest with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Jadeyn Higgins hit a long two to put Northwest up 23-20. After Azle scored the next four, Avery McClung hit a three to give the Texans a 26-24 lead. A three from McConnell just before the buzzer made it 29-28 after the third.

A free throw from Kendall Locke and a layup by Vielka Gonzalez gave Azle a 31-29 edge. McConnell tied it at 31 and Zenon scored five quick points to make it 36-33. Azle pulled within one before McClung’s basket made it three again midway through the fourth.

Boswell 66, FW Paschal 17

The Pioneers hit nine 3-pointers, led by four from Taniya Reese and Boswell improved to 4-0 in District 3-6A.

Miraya Perkins matched Paschal with 17 points with 10 coming in the second half. Reese hit all four threes in the first half and Salena Carrasco chipped in 11 points.

Tyra Knight and Zoe Hawthorne had eight apiece.
