Fort Bend Marshall 64, Mansfield Timberview 53
Pitt commit Jaland Lowe led Marshall with 30 points, including 20 in the second half to help the Buffalos pull away from the Wolves in the first round of the Whataburger Orange division on Wednesday at Mansfield Legacy HS.
Marshall, No. 2 in the latest Class 5A state rankings, went on an 8-1 run after Timberview pulled to within 54-49 midway through the fourth quarter.
Timberview’s Tyler Turner hit two free throws to make it a five-point game.
One Wolves possession earlier, Turner converted the 3-point play to get the Wolves within 52-47 with 4:19 left in the game. Trevon Krudewig hit a basket in the lane and was fouled late in the third for Timberview, but the Wolves trailed 48-40 after three.
Marshall continued to lead anywhere from four to eight points before pulling away late.
With the game tied at 8 in the first quarter, Timberview then led 14-10 fueled by back-to-back threes from Turner and Caleb Richard. Timberview led by that score from one.
The Buffs used an 8-2 run to grab the lead before Ryan Wright hit a Timberview three to put the Wolves on top 19-18. But Marshall scored the next nine points and led 29-23 at intermission.
Chris Catchings added 19 points for Marshall.
Timberview hit six 3-pointers in the first half, but was held to two in the third and one in the fourth. Turner led the Wolves with 21 points. Richard chipped in 11.
Colleyville Heritage 66, Irving MacArthur 48
A 20-8 burst in the second quarter helped push the Panthers to a big win over MacArthur to open the Holiday Shootout on Tuesday at Garland Lakeview Centennial HS.
Sammon Johnson led all scorers with 26 points for Heritage, which started the day No. 13 in the 5A state rankings and No. 5 in the area rankings.
Heritage edged out MacArthur 18-15 after the first quarter, but the Panthers led 38-23 at intermission.
Zedrick Carter added 16 points for Heritage. Tristan Strength chipped in seven.
Plano 72, Mansfield Legacy 59
The Wildcats used a run late in the third quarter to pull away from the Broncos in the first round of the Whataburger Orange division on Wednesday at Mansfield Legacy HS.
Oklahoma State bound forward Justin McBride led all scorers with 32 points.
Legacy, No. 3 in the 6A state rankings and No. 2 in the area rankings, cut the lead to 44-36 with 4:33 left in the third on a three from Derian Armstrong.
But Plano ended the final 4:33 of the quarter with 13 of 18 points and led Legacy 57-41 entering the final period.
Legacy’s Lejai Jordan hit a tough shot in the lane and Braylen Smith nailed a corner three in the first quarter. The two teams were tied at 15 after one. Ahmare Rose hit a turnaround bank shot to give Legacy a 19-18 lead in the second. But Plano ended the quarter with a 20-9 run and led 38-28 at the break.
Nikk Williams added 13 for Plano while Justin Buenaventura chipped in 10.
Armstrong and Jhaden Brown led the Broncos with 12 apiece. Amir McMillian added nine. Legacy was 12 of 20 at the free throw line.
Keller 62, North Crowley 55
The Indians held on against a late Panthers rally to win the first round match up of the Whataburger Orange division on Wednesday at Mansfield Legacy HS.
Keller, No. 8 in the 6A area rankings, led by 9 early in the fourth quarter off a 3-pointer by Steven Ramirez. Rhett Schank hit a bucket and was fouled, but missed the free throw. However Keller led by eight with 6:40 to play.
The Indian grew the lead to 11 with 5:18 left and it was 54-45 midway through the fourth. But North Crowley, No. 7 in the area, turned up the press and converted multiple turnover into points to pull within 56-52 with 1:35 remaining.
Keller’s Alex Peterson hit 3 of 4 from the charity stripe to give the Indians a 59-52 lead before the Panther got three when Terry Allen hit a free throw. His second was missed, but rebounded by teammate Corey Taylor, who ended the possession with a baseline floater and the score was 59-55 with 50 ticks left.
But North Crowley wouldn’t get any closer as the Panthers picked up charging foul and a turnover.
Ramirez led Keller with 19, including 12 in the second half. Schank added 15 and Peterson had 11. KD Davis led North Crowley with 17 while Allen had 10 of his 12 in the fourth quarter. Justin McCray had eight of his 11 in the third.
Keller was 16 of 23 from the strip. North Crowley was 11 of 20.
Arlington Martin 81, Plano John Paul II 76
Jaden Juarez dropped a game-high 27 points to lead the Warriors past the the Cardinals in the first round of the Whataburger Orange division on Wednesday at Mansfield Legacy HS.
Martin, No. 5 in the 6A state rankings and No. 1 in the area, also got 19 points from Houston bound guard Kordelius Jefferson. Jeremiah Charles added 14 and Jayson Mathiesen chipped in 11 for the Warriors.
The Warriors and Cardinals went back and forth in the first quarter with Martin holding on to a 21-18. Charles and Jefferson each scored seven points in the period.
Martin would hold onto a three-point lead at halftime. Jefferson hit an alley oop from Juarez and Martin scored the first five in the third. JP2 used 7-0 and 9-3 runs to take the lead 48-47. The teams were tied at 52 after three.
DBU bound guard Cody Stevens hit a three and Martin led 62-57 with 4:55 left in the game. The lead was six and then eight with 53.5 to play.

The Warriors rolled past the Cougars in the first round of the Whataburger Blue division on Wednesday at Saginaw HS.
Emma Kay Martin led Liberty Christian with 21 points.
Liberty (16-4), No. 1 in the TAPPS 5A rankings and No. 5 in the area rankings (4A/others), started the game with a 10-1 run and led 18-3 after the first quarter. Austen Goodgion’s layup put the Warriors up 19 in the second quarter and Cole only scored one point as Liberty led 32-4 at the break.
Martin added nine points in the third as the lead grew to 51-8 after three.
Midlothian Heritage 61, Katy Seven Lakes 37
The Jaguars held Seven Lakes to nine points in each of the final three quarters in a big win during the second round of the Aggieland Invitational on Tuesday.
Heritage improved its mark to 18-4.
The Jags also beat George Ranch 81-39 to start the tourney on Tuesday.
Three scored in double figures against George Ranch, led by Jerzie Bryant’s 19 followed by Natalya Shelton (18) and Taysie Trejo (10). The Jags led 21-7 after one and 48-21 at the break.
Bryant led Heritage with 27 against Seven Lakes. Trejo added 17 and Shelton chipped in 10. Heritage entered the week No. 19 in the 5A state rankings and No. 3 in the area.
Southlake Carroll 61, Little Elm 55
Senior guard Camryn Tade scored 35 points as the Dragons defeated the Lobos in the Holiday Classic at Frisco Centennial HS on Wednesday.
Carroll, No. 3 in the 6A area rankings, goes to 15-3.
Little Elm came in ranked No. 17 in 6A.
Little Elm started on fire with a 24-11 lead after the first quarter. The Lobos led 37-25 at halftime. But Carroll stormed back with a 21-5 out put in the third and 36-16 in the second half for the upset.
Milania Jordan chipped in 17 points for Carroll.
Peaster 87, FW Southwest Christian 43
Payton Hull and Brooklyn Bosher combined for 53 points as the Greyhounds rolled by the Eagles in the first round of the Whataburger Blue division on Wednesday at Saginaw HS.
Hull scored 30 points and Bosher added 23.
Ananda Jenerson led SCS with 27.
The game was close in the early going. Hull, an ACU signee, hit a layup to put Peaster up 12-10 in the first quarter. But the Greyhounds used an 11-0 run highlighted by Hull’s 3-point play.
Serenity Massey hit a corner three for SCS, but Peaster led 27-13 after the first quarter. The Eagles got back within 11 after a Jenerson three, but Hull’s steal and fast break layup made it 33-16 with 5:14 left in the half.
Another Jenerson three made it 37-26 with just under two minutes left in the second, but Peaster scored seven of the next eight to take a 44-27 lead into intermission.
Peaster really put the game out of reach with the first 12 points in the third quarter. Cody Ruddy scored a basket and the lead was 56-27. Jaycee McCloud hit a three late and Peaster was up 68-39 after the third.
Massey added 14 points for SCS.
