Boys

Keller 55, Southlake Carroll 48

Brooks Bahr had a game-high tying 22 points and the Indians beat the Dragons in the 4-6A opener on Tuesday.

Steven Ramirez added 14 points for Keller (8-7, 1-0), No. 8 in the 6A area rankings.

Carter Ruck led Carroll (12-3, 0-1) with 22 points. The Dragons entered the day No. 9.

Jack Lawson was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws. Ruck hit a three and layup and Carroll led 8-6 after one.

Keller went on a 9-0 run that included three free throws from Robbie Flores, a fast break layup by Quinn Estep and a layup from Ramirez to push the Keller lead to 15-8. Rhett Schank hit a three and Bahr made a contested layup as Keller led 26-18 at intermission.

The Indians led 35-23 in the third quarter, but Carroll responded with a 10-0 run to cut it to two. Lawson made a 4-point play, hit another three and Ruck also hit a three to make it 35-33.

But Keller scored the next eight to back up 43-33. Schank hit a corner three at the buzzer to give the Indians a 46-35 lead at the end of three.

Carroll’s 8-0 run cut the lead to 46-43. Keller led 47-33 with 4:56 left in the game. Bahr got a layup to go over 20 points and push the lead back to six. Another tough layup with under a minute left from Bahr gave Keller a 50-46 lead.

The Dragons pulled away in the second quarter to defeat the Indians in a 4-6A game on Tuesday.

Camryn Tade scored a game-high 19 points for Carroll (14-3, 3-0). Milania Jordan added 13 and Taryn Barnes had 12.

Renee Chmiel led Keller (15-6, 2-1) with 13 points.

Chmiel drained a three to tie the game at 8. Jordan and Tade hit jumpers just inside the arc for Carroll and Mallory McQuietor tied it for Keller at 12.

The Dragons led 14-12 after one before going on a 13-0 run. Milania Jordan’s three and back-to-back threes from Gia Jordan and Natalia Jordan gave Carroll a 25-12 lead.

Tade hit two more jumpers and Carroll led 36-22 at halftime.

Barnes picked up a few offensive rebounds, assists and baskets in the third quarter to help push the lead to 20.

Carroll entered the day No. 4 in the 6A area rankings. Keller was No. 3.
