Brian Gosset: Biggest things from the third round of the playoffs in the Fort Worth-area
The playoffs continue as Fort Worth-area teams look to march toward the state championship. A lot of action took place with impressive wins and big upsets, plus top recruits proving why they’re some of the best in the state.
Check out the best of the best from the third round of the playoffs.
Best win
Burleson Centennial 24, Abilene 14
The Centennial Spartans made history with a berth into the regional final for the first time after scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter to knock off the Eagles.
Quarterback Phillip Hamilton rushed for two touchdowns to help Centennial improve to 12-1.
The 12 wins from Centennial is not only a program record, but also a Burleson record. It’s the most wins in a single season from either Centennial or Burleson High.
After the game was tied at 7 through three quarters, Hamilton scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and Braedon Stephens forced a fumble and scored a defensive touchdown.
Truitt Bosher added a field goal in the final quarter.
Centennial will play Aledo in the Class 5A D1 Region 1 final.
How about them Rattlers?!
Tolar 63, Hamilton 7
Jackson Lecluyse completed 10 of 14 passing for 172 yards and four touchdowns and Peyton Brown rushed 25 times for 150 yards and four scores as the Rattler routed Hamilton to go to 13-0 and clinch a spot in the Class 2A D1 Region 2 final against Crawford.
Both Tolar and Crawford are 13-0.
The Rattlers scored 29 points in the first quarter to quickly blow the game wide open.
Wyatt Jones had five catches for 93 yards and two TDs.
Talan Culberson and Matthew Behrens also caught touchdowns.
Isaac Blessing had 16 tackles to lead the defense and forced a fumble which Kasyn Burdette would recover.
It’s Tolar’s first trip to the regional final since 2015.

Headed to state
Fort Worth All Saints beat Fort Worth Christian to advance to the TAPPS D2 state title game. It’s the first championship game for the Saints since 2016 when they won the Southwest Preparatory Conference.
All Saints was also SPC champs in 2015.
Fort Worth Covenant Classical took down Abilene Christian to advance to the TAPPS 6-man D2 state championship.
The Cavs look to defend their crown after winning the championship last season.
Both teams will play in Waco this week with the Saints playing Fort Bend Christian and Covenant playing Pasadena First Baptist.

Brock 51, Bushland 27
The Eagles were down 27-7 in the second quarter and 27-10 at halftime.
Trailing by 20, Brock would score the final 44 points to win 51-27 over the Falcons. Brock shut out Bushland 41-0 in the second half and advances to the Class 3A D1 Region 1 final against Whitesboro.
382 yards passing
Jake Wilson, Sr., QB, Byron Nelson
Wilson was masterful in his final high school football game for the Bobcats throwing for 382 yards on 27 of 42 passing and five touchdowns.
However, Denton Guyer’s Jackson Arnold and the Wildcats were just a little bit better as Byron lost 59-41.
Byron finishes 11-2 with its only two losses against Top 10 teams in Guyer and Southlake Carroll.
Wilson was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the state this season with over 4,000 yards passing and 40 touchdowns.
217 yards rushing
Owen Allen, Sr., RB, Southlake Carroll
Allen rushed for 200 yards for the 10th time in his illustrious career and scored four touchdowns as the Dragons beat the McKinney Lions 42-35 to advance to the Class 6A D2 Region 1 final.
Allen’s final touchdown run came with under a minute left in the game.
Carroll goes to the regional final for the sixth straight season where the Dragons will play Guyer.
Allen is over 2,000 yards and 35 touchdowns this season. He’s rushed for 100 yards in 11 games.
